I see #66 got assigned to Jay Burkhard.

I wonder if this is the same Jay Burkhard #29, that got booted for not sending cigars on 10-8-03, 10-22-03, 11-5-03 & 11-19-03?

Hey CC, what U think?

You got stiff on one of them winnings. :whistling:

Edit: I see he was in the 4-6-03 drawing and didn't register his mailings.

Probably has humi full of Acids :0

Who knows. I had my drama fill for the week. I bailed out. I just want to know that the guys that disagreed with me are on any forums? I can't believe so if they send out yard "gars"

Russ Rhoton won.

Just to let you know, both times I won, he sent me Connies, a no-name EMS robusto and an "Oro Cubano"

Now fine, that MAY be what he smokes and if those are the types of cigars he enjoys, then that's what I'll send him ;)

He also sent me my winnings six weeks late so I don't know about the rest of you but I've been awfully busy lately, I mean I have enough time to register the mailing but gee, getting it to the post office, well that's another story. :whistling:

I treat those the way I've been treated ;)

Thanks for the info CC
I've got a few cigars that are "ok" laying about
now I will be able to get rid of a few :D
What goes aruond , comes around ;)

Hey Shane, I saw the back and forth on the message board and you certainlly make some excellent points. That being said, that pool has people in it who:
1. Smoke and send premium cigars
2. Smoke premium cigars and send low end stuff
3. Smoke low end stuff and send low end stuff
4. Smoke all ranges of cigars and send all ranges of cigars based on other factors.

Personally, I fall into category #4. When it comes to guys like Russ Rhoton, I will not be sending him Havanas and Opus X. Why, not because I'm trying to "shaft" him or anything but he sent out low end cigars so he will receive low end cigars (if I can find any in the humi  ).

Now with a guy like Doug Selsor, I did things differently. Here was a guy who has been in CigarPool for freakin' EVER and a day and for EVERY winner, he sent SEVEN cigars :0 . When he finally won th first time in December of 2004, I sent him the best package I've sent to anyone in my four years of being in CigarPool. I also tend to send nicer sticks to guys who are in CigarPool who are members here because I have a much better feeling what kind of cigars they like and so forth.

If you want to be in a high-end pool you really should sign up for the CigarSnobs pool. We have a rule there, HAVANAS AND PREMIUM STICKS ONLY and since we all know each other, 99% of the time ALL cigars are sent out by participants ON TIME and everyone plays by the rules. I was lucky enough to win it on the second drawing and WOW did I receive some nice sticks
Quite a difference from my winnings at CigarPool. So if that's what you're interested in, you should join that one.

Lee thinks I'm crazy for staying in CigarPool since I pretty much smoke only high end sticks now. I stay in because at least 40% of the members there are members here and I enjoy sending out cigars especially to people I know. AND if a great guy like Doug wins, I'll send him a monster pack  Shortly after that, Doug joined here and the Snobs pool  I really could care less if I win CigarPool again.

Bill-

Thanks for the level headed response. I got caught up over there and never got to really express my feelings the right way. Here is a cut and paste that I wrote to my guys.

The $5 dollar thought was a mistake. Should have never posted a number but just a name. I think its a great pool for what many are looking for. For me its different now. I figure 24 drawings a year. At an average of 7-10 dollar a stick for me. Times that by 2 and add two hitchikers. I'm in at a minimum of $20.00 plus priority shipping of $3.85 per pull. Thats $572.40 a year until I win. I can buy some really good boxes and get close to a hundred sticks for $575 dollars on my own. So what about the brotherhood. If I want to try out some lesser favorites I'll go to c-bid and get a fiver. What about the deadbeats? I seen everyone's favorite get outed like twice already. Bill (Smitty) I know you saw the post on CP, what about that guy. I doubt he just happens to share that name and joins cigarpool. I don't want to come off as a snob and I think thats what everyone thought that I need a premium in my mouth. Its not. My deal is on fairness. Some are into it the right way and some just want to skate. So comes the question, why not just send the like. Stop with the more expensive sticks and send average. If I wanted to do that I would. Doing that lowers the value of wanting to be in the pool. Why remember to register or to pack up twice a month for something I won't be into. To me sending cigars should be a good experience. Something known and a hitchiker to try. Some (not all I know) skate with just the hitchiker angle and to me thats not fair to the guys that put together a special box. If we say its a yard gar pass would anyone be interested? The answer is more likely no. So why would I float even a small percentage that doesn't do the right thing. I won't and thats why I bailed. Again, just my vibe. To me its a black hole with a percentage that isn't deserving to play among brothers. I'll go to a pass/lottery where it is known that the expectations are at a similiar level and not all over the board.

So anyway. If I got on and guys from over here, my bad. My thing is about fairness and like you said Bill certain lotto's you know what the deal is. Cigarpool seems to loose for me right now.

Good luck guys.

Again, great points Shane.

Just a couple of thoughts:

First off, in that pool, I NEVER send the sticks Priority because I have found that I can get cigars to people just about anywhere in the country in four days or less with regular ole First Class. I spend $1.06, $1.29 or $1.52, (NEVER any more than that) on postage each drawing. And since I send mine out the day of or the day after the drawing, the winner gets mine sooner than 75% of his other packages (well, the last drawing or two, I've been slacking) but I almost always drop them in the mail on Thursday after the drawing, many times even before Michael Cook declares the winner because I have most everyone's address :D

One good thing about the CigarSnobs lotto is it's once a MONTH rather than every two weeks which to me, really is more manageable.

I think you're over doing it with the tag along sticks. The both times I won, only about half the guys added extra sticks and of the half that added extra sticks, you wouldn't want 3/4 of what they added so in my opinion, why bother?

Again, I send CP members some extras BUT if the CPool winner is someone I don't know, they get two sticks, one for each number because that's what the expectations are. I think of the well thought out thread that SteveR posted here with regard to passes where he made the point that just do even puts for even takes, don't try to be impressive or out-do people so I follow the same logic with CigarPool, I have two numbers therefore I send out two stick that I would smoke.

Following that basic strategy, my cost per year is considerably lower than yours.

Don'te get me wrong, I'm not trying to change your mind because I think you have extremely valid reasons for dropping out. I just offered my long-winded post here just for others to see what I do.

For the first time since I've been in the pool(if memory serves me correctly), there are 2 open spots. ;)

So if someone is wanting in or needing another number, now's your chance. It's just as easy to send 2 sticks as it is to send 1 and your chances of winning are doubled.

I've just applied for 2 numbers... hope I get in, could use a little luck these days!

Jim

I am the proud owner of numbers 49 and 56!
Looks like there is still one number available and less than 2 weeks until the next drawing.

Jim

was just looking at the pool member page and there are four open numbers if anyonone is interested in getting in now would be the time. Just thought I would post a little FYI.
