Christmas music

A couple of other cd's that have never left my Christmas-side, are:

1. Jimmy Smith - Christmas '64 (Christmas and Hammond B-3? You bet your ass.)
3. Kenny Burrell - Have Yourself a Soulful Little Christmas (Sweeter guitar than Wes anyday IMHO).

Oh...and can't forget to add my good friend Chris Isaak's Christmas cd that came out a little while back.  Never can go wrong there at all.

Chris Isaak is the king of cool...... he'd be the coolest cat to party with in Vegas.. LOL!

He's a super cool guy, and super nice and down to earth. Back when I lived in California, hung out often with him and went surfing with him, etc. Very nice guy. Remember long, long ago catching him playing free shows in restaurant parking lots around the bay area in SF (like the Three Flames in San Jose). But you're right, would be cool to hit the Vegas strip w/ him...

Dude, you didn't happen to live in Stockton did you? Chris wen't to High School with one of my wife's cousins and they still see him regularly.

I didn't. I lived in Santa Cruz actually. But one of my many heartbreaks chickies lived right near there. Ended up dating a couple of broads from that neck of the woods, and one nightmare from Manteca, who all cost me way too many miles on my then '50 Ford. First met Chris in passing in San Jose, then again in San Francisco at a mexican joint, then surfing....but oddly had always gone to his shows when he played. Truly a genuine guy.

Edited to add -

Once we hooked up surfing years and years and years ago, we became great friends and actually still stay in touch, much to the delight of my now wife. :D

Yeah, I know what you mean, I think Manteca breeds them that way

unfortunately, i've never seen the pogues or shane live :(

and you're right..can't go wrong with the Rev...

even the turkey tune is pretty fun

Think the first time I saw the Pogues without Shane was when he was still with them. Lol. It was probably the Fillmore, or the Warfield in SF. I can't recollect that part. Shane was, as you can suspect, way to wasted to come out and perform, so they left him backstage passed out. That was about the beginning of the end of Shane w/ the Pogues. Still a great show.

'A Charlie Brown Christmas' by Vince Guaraldi. It's amazing!

I second that! What a great cd that can be enjoyed by folks of all ages. Kids these days won't be reminded of the Charlie Brown specials like we enjoyed them, but they can enjoy it for what it is on it's own.

my other favorite for this time of year is Slayer, Seasons of the Abyss :sign:

Merry Axemas vol. 1&2
Ho, Ho, Hoey vol. 1-3
Tis the Season for Los Straitjackets!
Trans Siberian Orchestra (all)

TSO all the way! Can't wait to see them in Philly on the 17th!

I honestly cant stand X-mas music. But then again, I've been listening to Russian music since this Spring and I have no idea wtf they are singing. But I do enjoy it. :D

Jimmy Buffett -- Christmas Island

Barenaked Ladies are covering some cool stuff.

Can't stand traditional Perry Como, Bing Crosby, etc. etc. 50's traditional everything is Swell christmas music.

I would like to hear something like Black Sabbath doing We Three Kings.

Oh, I gotta get that one. Love Charles Brown. I saw him live just before he passed away. What a great show! Thanks David

"Merry Christmas From The Temptations" is still my favorite Christmas album. I also love the old Tony Bennett cuts, but then again I love almost all of Tony Bennett's stuff (Christmas or not).

2000 Miles is my favorite Christmas song of the rock era. I saw Chrissy do it solo acoustic sometime in the late 80's.

Manheim Steamroller

Just saw them in concert a couple weeks back... twas a good show.

Another vote. Got their "Mannheim Steamroller Christmas" CD from years ago. Everyone from my kids to my mom likes it.

...but it's back to the Stones and Rob Zombie as soon as everyone leaves..... :p

Cheers - B.B.S.

Oh there are some classic ones that get a spin in my house:

1) Charlie Brown Christmas CD - this is a must! Vince Guaraldi's masterpiece and a must have XMas cd everyone must own. If you haven't seen this TV special at least once in your life, you must live under a rock.

2) The Ventures Christmas Album - each traditional Xmas song's intro is modeled after a well known pop song of the time (i.e. Wipe Out, 8 Days a Week, etc....). Cheesy but uber cool!!

3) Merry Axemas I and II - where do I begin? Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, and the list of guitar viruosos goes on and on taking a fair crack at those ol yuletide favorites.

4) Gary Hoeys Xmas CDs - this guy has a great sense of humor and is an accomplished guitarist to boot!

5) Trans Siberian Orchestra - seeing a trend here?

I can't believe nobody has even mentioned Merry F#%$in’ Christmas by Dennis Leary

Old Saint Nick's got bourbon breath
It's so cold you could catch your death
A cop sold me some crystal meth
Its a merry f*ckin' christmas

Everythings so christmasy
the streets are twinkiln with frozen pee
my priest just sat on santa's knee
its a merry f*ckin' christmas

All the kids go to bed each night
to dream what santa brings 'em (brings 'em)
unless theyre jewish or muslim
or some other jip religion

crappy toys flyin' off the shelves
midgets dressed up to look like elves
spread the cheer or burn in hell
its a merry f*ckin' christmas

All the kids go to bed each night
to dream what santa brings 'em
unless theyre jewish or muslim
or some other jip religion

Cracklin' fires to keep me warm
and my collection of asian porn
Cradle my bells and work my horn

It's a keep on truckin
last year suckin
midget chuckin
slap the puckin
how much wood could a woodchuck chuckin
merry f*ckin christmas!

Another one I forgot to include...definitely when it gets later in the evening, and perhaps you want some of your guests to leave...and those that stay you don't mind having around because it means they appreciate such things:

Far superior to Demento's IMHO only... :)
