BOTL's in Arms Pass

We have 7 potential spots open...

The pass lineup and maps should be uploaded by Tuesday night, and departure time is probably wed. morning.

I may not be looking for something top of the line just yet, but here is kind of what Im looking at doing.

This is the new stock I put on it: Clicky
- I didn't want to go over the top with something nicer...after all it is only a $120 firearm...kicks like a mule though. The stocks the m44's come on were dipped in that preservation oil...and it was just too damn greasy for me to tolerate it anymore. The black synthetic fit perfectly and actually looks pretty good.

This is the mount I'm looking at getting: Clicky

There's a couple things that are preventing me from wanting to make the investment for this particular rifle though. First is that it has the bayonet that is fixed on the barrel, and would require gun smithing in order to remove it properly. Second, since I have a straight bolt, It would require more time and money to have the bolt re-drilled for the bent handle to use with the scope...then of course I have to get the new stock drilled for a scope.

All in all, I'm not sure how much I'm looking at with the removal of the bayonet, and that's even if I want it removed. It may serve no purpose...but at least it is aesthetically pleasing. It seems like to much of an investment in a screw-around rifle.

Maybe I should wait until I buy myself the Benelli R1 I've been yearning for, meh, so many choices in this hobby.

IMO I would wait. This looks like it would be more hassle than what its worth.

Jake, thanks for the invite. I'm in. I've got a few long guns and a few pistols. My weapon of choice is the Kimber Custom II 1911 and the Springfield XD-40 sub-compact.

As promised, a photo of my 1911 GI model made by Springfield.

Notice it is also on the pass logo ;)

I have yet to read the thread but Ammo is useless with out gunpowder. I took a look at the lineup and it looked ok so sign me up.

Just be aware I might be in Texas for 1 1/2 weeks over the Christmas holiday so you can skip over me or reshuffle me if timing looks bad.

BigJake, got your PM and looked over the pass. You are right, I am a gun owner. Looks like a fun pass. Sign me up if there is still time.

Jake, I feel a little lame following up your porn with more of the same porn...

Bro, there is nothing lame about a sweet shooting 1911. Great pick-up, I'm sure you will be very happy with it. A trigger job and different main spring would make it even better. Stock trigger is just a little to heavy for my taste but I do like a heavier main spring. You might shoot great with it just like it is and if thats the case then why do anything to it? Can't have to many 1911's

Don't forget a fitted bushing, skeleton hammer, light wt. trigger, custom grip saftey... It's a fuggin' disease, I tell ya.

Well, here is my very modest collection. It is a start though!!! hehehe, almost as bad of an addiction as cigars! And, gasp, on some days even more so! Enjoy!

Also wanted to say that the Springfield GI .45 that you guys have is one of the frontruners for me as well. lol. I love the simplicity of it. Although the Kimber Black stainless .45 I am in love with as well...... Decisions decisions decisions. Wonder what the wife would say about my birthday being only a month after X-mas so one for each? :)

Don

P.S. Looking forward to this pass gents!!

Guys, we have a few new pass participants! Please welcome them aboard!

The current pass order it up to date, and the Ammo list complete. Given the holiday, I think it might not be smart to have them sit for 3 days in a postal warehouse or truck. This will be on the road next Mon. Guaranteed.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.

In the mean time, for your entertainment pleasure, I will post a email that was forwarded to me..

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. (waiting for attack)
The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

6. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my shotgun.'

7. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

But wait, there's more!

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did. She said 'Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!' To which I said, o f course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!' She then asked, ' Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?' My reply was, 'No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too.' To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

A quote from the movie AVP:

"My gun is like a condom; I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it."

TFL: The Firing Line

are you referring to thefiringline.com?
[/quote]

Yes. I have been a member since 1999 although I haven't been on there since 2006 and actively posting really since 2004. TFL went to archive-only at the end of 2002, and came back live in mid-2004 running until now.

I checked with a local gun shop about high capacity mags for a SW99 9mm. They said you couldn't get them since the big rush after the election. If you could they would be $50+. Anyone know a good source and how high capacity they are? I was thinking 16 rounds.

Just of pic of me having a smoke while attending an IDPA tournament. Figured it fits the theme of the pass.
