The Blind Leading the Blind Pass - Part II  ???

Ever smoke something that everyone says is great, but you just don't seem to see what they do? You, my friend are obviously BLIND. :0

As a newbie, most of what I buy is based on reviews/recommendations. Some of these are great, some not so great. Since I don't smoke that frequently, if I did not enjoyed my last experience with a cigar, I'm not likely to give it a second chance (especially considering the number of cigars that I have not yet given a first chance). As a result, I have accumulated a number of supposedly good cigars that I'm just not going try again.

If you have some cigars that are supposed to be good, based on reviews, price, recommendations, or past experience, but they don't do it for you, then this pass is for you.

RULES
1)Even though it's not for you, you must have reason to believe that your puts are good cigars. Reasons could include:
--rave reviews
--personal recommendations
--past experience

2)You have to include a story for your puts. This is nothing huge, just a sentince or two, up to a novel if the mood strikes you. For the purpose of this pass a story could mean:
--how you were convinced to buy,
--what makes the cigar not for you
--a review,
--any combination of the above
--something else related to the put.

3)Typical Cigar Pass rules apply(that's a link)
However, in the case of this pass, quantity for quantity and value for value don't really make a lot of sense. As a guideline lets keep things to a minimum MSRP of $2. The goal here is to keep things out of the gutter, but common sense should prevail (for example a 5 year old connie 84 with an MSRP of $1.20 would still be an acceptable put). Obviously, if you bought a box of AF Anejos and found that you don't like them after all, they would be welcome here too.
4)No limit on number of puts or takes. Please be considerate of other players and try to make sure that those after you have a variety of cigars to choose from.
5)Communication is key. I expect pass members to post as their turns come up to let everyone know that they are available to recieve the pass.

If you can't deal with these rules, then this pass is not for you. Even if you are BLIND
I thought this was an awesome idea for a pass, and is right where I am at with my humidor today. I have a bunch of smokes that I thought were going to be good and am not too keen on. So, I thought I would start this pass in the same manner as MonkeyK. Thanks Dude!

I want to open this up to about 10 members. Please PM me and post in this thread if you are interested. If there are any FOGs that would volunteer to review my final member list to weed out any scammers, I would appreciate it.

I plan on starting this pass as soon as I can get a solid 10. I need to find an adequate tuperware container and humidifier. And I will post the cigar list as soon as I make sure I have all the names and types correct.

I know I am pretty damn new to this forum, but this seems like a great way to learn about some other peoples choices and broaden my (our) smoking experience. They say sequels are never as good as the original, but hopefully I can live up to MonkeyK's follow-through. :)

Thanks,
- C

I think it's a great idea that you are looking to jump into the whole Cigar BB thing with both feet but maybe you should try this first Newbie Sampler Trade

Also read this..... Newbie Guide

Also might wanna check this out..... BB and chat Lingo

BTW.... welcome to CP from NYC.....

Pull up a chair and light up a smoke

Sorry bro..... I didn't mean to burst your bubble

I did look at that and I don't have an extra $50-$100 to spend on cigars right now. It looks like a great idea though, and I'm sure I will give it a shot sometime down the road. :)

I did read that. Thanks. I appreciate finding the link on people who to look out for when trading/passing.

You didn't burst my bubble. As far as I am concerned, this pass is still on. All I need are 10 other people who might be interested. As a new guy, I am the one taking the risk sending out 25 smokes w/o really interacting w/ many ppl yet. Worst case, I lose my cigars. Best case, I get back some different cigars to try. But like I said, I don't have the $$ to start on the Newbie Trade, but I do have some extra smokes. So the pass seems like the best option.

I'll put up pics of the cigars, tuperware container, humidifier, and humidifier gauge(not to be sent) up tonight. So all can see I am legitimately sending X. I modified the list w/ what my previous packing slips indicated. I guess I was off a little on the Puros Indios.

Anyway, Tommy, interested in the pass? Take a little risk? ;) :) Life is more interesting if you take risks anyway.

Thanks,
- C

I doubt you'll get many participants. You joined yesterday and you're already wanting to host a box pass? It's preferred that you participate in a few before you host a pass. I understand that you're the only one that stands to lose anything, but nobody knows you and you haven't traded w/ anyone here.

By the looks of your list, you only have 11 different cigars.

Become a part of the site, do a few trades, get to know people before jumping in with both feet.

Heck I am in.

As I see it he risk is zero for participants and huge for the host. True the selection is small and BlueDragon is new. However, I think it is a great way to show he is a "stand-up" guy and a great addition to the board.

PLUS . . . there are no other passes starting up so it is good to see someone trying to get things moving.

I have to agree with JAEwing here(doesn't mean a whole lot considering my newb status around here :0 ) but I will join in as well if you don't mind.

Rock and Roll, Daddio! I have updated the Pass List.

It is nice to see some positive momentum.

Noble effort and I understand the oppositions side as well. Nobody wants to loose anything and hope that all goes well.

With that said and knowing there are risk I say F@ck !t! I am in...

If you'll have me. I was hoping to get into the poker pass but thats been post-poned so I have time before it starts...

LMAO..... I have been taking risks all of my life.... LMAO

I wish you luck with he pass.... I would join but I will be away for all of August.....

I wasn't trying to do anything but give you advice on "proper BB and Pass etiquette" before some FOG tore you up for posting a pass request on you 4th post.

Good luck with the pass........

Good; maybe you can explain it to me (PM - don't really want to go off topic or start a flame war).

Hell yea! You've been added to the pass list.

I did look at the poker pass too, but as you noted, it was postponed. And since I am the FNG, I probably wouldn't be added to a list until some relationships were made. Which I totally understand. But this way, I have all the risk. I send out a bunch of cigars and hope not to get taken. I don't see the tubidor until it goes all the way through the list. So, what risk is it that people on the pass list would be undertaking? If the box shows up, he/she takes/puts/passes. If the box doesn't show up, they loose out on some anticipation. Anyhoo ....

I'll see you this Wednesday at the Poker table.

No, I do appreciate the insight. I did read some of those links previously, but not all. I have now, and there was a lot of good stuff. But are you sure the "N" didn't turn into an "O" in that quote under your nick/avatar? <J/K> :p

Have a great trip. And we'll miss you this pass.

What the hell, I'm in if you will have me. I've never done a pass before and this seems like a good one to start with. Hope it works out for you.

Come on people. Quit being such chicken sh!t$...

Seriously, What exactly do you have to loose in this pass. Logically nothing. If something where to happen during the pass you honestly would only miss getting a turn and thus loose nothing.

So get off your @$$ and get on board!

:) :) :)

It's not the fact that people will lose anything. It's the fact that the "host" has never participated in any previous passes. It's a risk b/c it might not get ran correctly, the Puts/Takes will be skewed, etc. I'm not saying not to join. I understand that everyone has to start somewhere, but it's usually participating in a pass before actually running one.

It just seems to me that he is sending out the only sticks he has and is hoping for better ones in return. That's not what passing is all about.

Of couse we all join with that thought in mind. As for him getting "better" sticks in return . . . read the original idea behind this pass. Also, if we put equivalent sticks in for what is taken out then the host should not be getting "better" ones (higher value) but merely "different" smokes than he already has. I don't think he is doing anything here but trying to be a part of CigarPass. Nobody joining this pass shoudl be expecting, when the box comes to them, to find an Opus, Anejo or ISOM nor are they planning to put one either. I consider this pass an opportunity to sample a couple mid-range brands that maybe I have not tried.

Don't join if you think he is trying to scam us out of our smokes. I happen to like many of the ones he has in the line-up and have a few to contribute. I also think this is a good way for a newbie (like our host) to extend the range of his humidor (not in quantity or quality but rather selection) while at the same time being a positive contribution to this board.
