1400 post contest

My worst cigar experience was as a young lad of 14 years. My father had received a big honking "Its a boy!" Dutch Master cigar at work and not being a cigar smoker, he chucked it up on his dresser and forgot about it (long enough for it to dry completely out). I being a curious little shit decided that he wouldn't notice it missing anyway and stole it.

Then I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life... I snuck out into the woods behind our house and to smoke it.

Having never smoked anything before but having watched my Dad smoke his cigarettes all the time, I put the end with the V cut into my mouth and lit the other end with a match.

And I started to inhale...

The next thing I remember, was waking up with a knot on my head from passing out and smacking my noggin into a tree, puke on my shirt, and being the dizziest I've ever been in my life. It took me a good 45 mins to crawl back into our yard while dry heaving the whole way.

My Dad found me laying face down in front of the back door and once he was able to get me coherent enough to tell him what was wrong he laughed his ass off and carried me inside, pulled my filthy clothes off me and put me to bed.

No mention of my mistake was ever made to my Mom and he never gave me a hard time about it

I still to this day think thats the sickest I've ever been.

The best cigar experience I've had to date... its very hard to say, in my opinion every minute of a beautiful day spent enjoying a fine cigar with a good friend is a "Best Cigar Experience" so I'll just have to pick the first time Double D and I had a chance to smoke a stick after he came back from Kansas City and we both knew his daughter was going to be OK. I think we both really enjoyed our cigars and scotch that day.

Thanks for the trip back down memory lane Brad.

The fact that your dad laughed, took care of you, never gave you any grief, and didn't tell your mom makes that a combined best and worst! Those days are pure perfection!

Thanks for the contest Brad! It certainly has been fun getting to read through different peoples experiences...both good and bad.

Yawn, what terrible contest. I going to send everyone who entered a 5'er(10 sticks to the guys that got in the first week!). As far as a winner goes well... I don't quite have one yet. I asked OutlawD to help me judge the great stories we did get. I will have a decision by the end of the day! Prizes go out Thursday!

Wow, I'm really sorry this happened and you have to feel that way. The stories who did enter I feel were very good, but I do agree participation was lacking. Nevertheless, thanks for the opportunity at a cool contest idea and a HELLUVA prize!

I agree.
Not a good response at all considering the prizes.
Still, it makes it better odds for the ones that did enter :whistling:

Sorry guys, I was a little pissy this morning but I was hoping that you guys would think that you all had a moment in your life to share. It's not about the story, it was about sharing something with all of us! I will share my moments with you guys when I announce the winner!

Brad,
since deadlines up now it is same for me to post. Thanks for a great contest I am sorry you did not get the participation you wanted.
But as usual you have been very generous and it is all about Quality not quantity and I think you got some good quality in the stories posted.

it is all about quality not quantity.

I hate to disagree with you bro... But your wrong.

Brad wanted everyone to share their experiences good, bad or both with all of us here at CP. It was never about the quality of the stories.

It was about the sharing.

And that's why he put up such an awesome prize as incentive.

Its all about the brother/sisterhood of the leaf, and every story would have been worthy.

Brad can correct me if I'm wrong, but thats what I read into it.

Shawn

Just now saw this contest Brad, so here goes:

Worst:

About 3 years ago I figured I'd smoke an AF Maduro on the way to work. Drove out of the driveway and lit it up and began the nice 45 minute commute to work. Well, after getting on the highway, I was pretty much zoned out and unaware of any traffic around me. When I tried ashing the cigar out of the window, the ash hit the upper part of the window and fell right on my middle finger. As you would expect, it really hurt and began to burn my finger. Well, my first reaction was to slam on my brakes and try to get the damn thing out the window. I hadn't realized that some fuggoff was riding my ass and when I hit the brakes, he rear ended me, which caused me to lose the entire cigar on the floor, thus burning a bigger hole in my carpet. I still have that damn scar on my middle finger to remind me to keep the window rolled down.

Best:

Before being married, I dated a girl who needless to say, was pretty much ready to "go" at the drop of a hat. Anytime we'd go out to have a few drinks, she'd get more and more randy as the night went on, LOL. After leaving the bar, a few of us decided to head back to my house to carry the party on out back on the patio. I wasn't a cigar smoker at the time, but a buddy of mine was and handed out a few VSGs(my first). The night went on and so did the drinking. Around 2am everyone began to leave and I was left alone w/ my girlfriend out back. She, in her drunken state, decides to turn the porch light off and begin the festivities a little early. I was about 3/4 of the way done w/ the VSG and she began to treat me to the thing she did best, if you catch my drift. Needless to say, I kept enjoying the cigar for a little bit, then had to put it out and go inside to finish things up. Best b/c the VSGs are my favorite cigar and b/c of the "experience" I had smoking it. Has never happened again and I doubt it ever will :sign:

My Mother-in-Law passed away on Friday and I have been a little busy. I'm having a hard time picking between a few of you guys. I got to give this to Marc! I'm going to send out a special runner up pack to Ray. I hope that all your moments with cigars are wonderful!

Best.

I was working in a factory(making garden hose and spray tank bottles) where my wife still works. I was really starting to get into cigars after finding the recently opened Outlaw. I had asked the guys at the shop if they ever needed part-time help to give me a call. A year and a half later I get this call from the manager of the store to tell me they just got there Fuente account and oh, by the way, do you still want to work here? I started on the day before Christmas 8 years ago. I worked everyday that I didn't have to be at the plant. One day they ask me what it would take to get me to stop working at the plant and work for them full time. I said a small miracle. My wife was pregnant with Jackson and we really needed money. I told them I would have to talk to her. She told me that if they could pay me what I was making then go for it. She knew I was miserable working there and this might be my only chance to work somewhere that I would truly enjoy my job. They hired me the next day. I started to save up to get a box of cigars to share when my son was born. I told the manager that I wanted to get a box of Diplomatico Maduros. I got the money together and came into pay for them and they wouldn't let me! The store bought me that box and had a plate made for the box with Jacksons name, birth date, weight and length. I, of course, still have that empty box. My best cigar smoking experience is everyday because I get to do it for a living and work with some of the finest people on earth! I've sold and smoked more cigars then most of you guys could even imagine. All because of the best woman in the world and the greatest cigar store ever.

Worst.
3 years ago I was in the process of buying a house. I had been really busy with paperwork and getting the house cleaned up so we could move. I had saved two cigars from the box of Padrons I got when Jackson was born. That was the start of my collection. I collected two of anything rare, odd and or exceptional I could get my hands on. I had sets of all the '64s and '26s. I had two of every Opus x(production), Anejo, and Don Carlos. I had all of the Partagas 150s and the Ramon y Ramons. I had close to 300 cigars that were either hard to get or not made any more. I had planed on saving the cigars until Jackson had graduated from college and giving them to him as a gift for us to share.I had ignored my humidors for about 6 weeks. I was dusting a shelve where I keep the humidors at the time and I saw a tobacco beetle scurry by. I stopped breathing for a couple of seconds and then I opened one of the humidors. The destruction was about one of the most heart wrenching things I've ever had the misfortune of viewing. I lost about half of my collection. I tried to salvage the rest of it. I cleaned out the humidors, froze everything that was suspect. We smoked the things that were not destroyed( I shared them with the boys) if one of the pair was damaged. I put the others back into the humidors determined to start again but the critters came back! This time I lost one of the original '64s that started the collection and finally gave up on it. We smoked like kings for the better part of a month at the shop. I learned a few of valuable lessons from this experience. Never re-use a humidor(desk top) that has had critter issues(the eggs get into places you can't see). Never ignore a humidor. You always have more friends then you think when you are passing out rare cigars. I most important thing I learned is that we all make stupid mistakes and moving on is sometimes the right thing to do. I now have a nice end table humidor that I keep my smokes in. I only collect a few different things, I want my son to be able to decide for himself if he wants to smoke cigars and not have this expectation of him because of something I had started when he was born.

Sharing is a large part of my life. Never be afraid to share even if you don't think it's good enough. I did get what I wanted out of this contest, I got to learn a little about each one of you that posted! Boxes will go out Thursday. Enjoy-B

Thanks again Brad. Great contest. It was fun to read all the entries. Thanks too for sharing your stories at the end.

Sorry to hear about your wife's mom.

Take care...
