Today, at about 1:00 Eastern Bank of America shut down my Merchant service account for doing internet cigar sales. Just thought you guys would like to know about this. I should have CC acceptance up and running by this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest.

I am really surprised that in the current state of the economy they would be refusing business.

And this is when the BULL SHIT starts. Al sorry to hear it man.

Soon they will be controlling your TV and BED ROOM.

Good luck Al! If I had a BOA account, I'd be taking my business elsewhere.

I don't get it, do you not have a required legal license? Or was the account misclassified so that they were charging you the wrong transaction fee's for your business type?

We were classified as a Tobacco Merchant and both Mastercard and Bank of America said non face to face transactions are a risk they are not willing to take. I refused to sign an amended cardholder agreement saying I wouldn't ship tobacco or do ANY non face to face transactions. The agreement included any non face to face transactions, such as a pipe cleaners or humidor or anything else that I sell because I am a Tobacco Merchant.

And the Schip was just signed by Obama. I'm not sure if I read this right, but it says "not an error". Raising RYO Tobacco from $1.09 a pound to over $24 a pound. WTF is going on here. What a day!

Definitely not a typo. Here in NY, many have switched to RYO since a pack is about $8 (in NYC it's more). Starting in April, RYO will be just as expensive as buying packs.

That is a crock. I am sorry to hear this, I did read where Poo pal was allowing people to use their accounts to purchase cigars. I don't know this for sure or not, nor do I know if you have any interest in them.

What a joke. Al, encourage people to pay with checks/mo's - save yourself the fees involved.

RYO up to $24/lb? Screw that, if I want to smoke cigarettes, I'll grow my own plants. At least I'll have purer tobacco.

What a bunch of shit. Al, I'm so sorry these guys decided to screw with a solid merchant as you are.

Are there alternatives for you, when it comes to a new merchant account? Is PayPal now an option?

Hang in there, brother - B.B.S.
