Shut down by Bank of America

That is a crock. I am sorry to hear this, I did read where Poo pal was allowing people to use their accounts to purchase cigars. I don't know this for sure or not, nor do I know if you have any interest in them.

I actually went with Merchant One (Wells Fargo affiliate) and they are giving me a better rate and free equipment. 1.59% plus .15 per trans with no contract, no set up or up front fees, $5 a month for statement and the rep was a cigar smoker. So if anyone wants to switch, his name and contact

I don't get it, do you not have a required legal license? Or was the account misclassified so that they were charging you the wrong transaction fee's for your business type?

We were classified as a Tobacco Merchant and both Mastercard and Bank of America said non face to face transactions are a risk they are not willing to take. I refused to sign an amended cardholder agreement saying I wouldn't ship tobacco or do ANY non face to face transactions. The agreement included any non face to face transactions, such as a pipe cleaners or humidor or anything else that I sell because I am a Tobacco Merchant.

Al

Out of curiousity, since the risk is simply chargebacks for them, did they simply offer a higher fee schedule like they do with porn companies?

Or did they say they were worried about getting sued by some kids parents. The whole thing just sounds so stupid on their part.

Maybe this is why PP is accepting cigar transactions?! Hmmm.

This way they get the vig on both ends.

Everyone for whom this applies, please make the change. Send these pricks a message.

PP is not an option When I set up my web presence I went to PP and changed my email to Jim@Tobacco-Village.com. Within 48 hrs they sent me an email and told me that I violating their TOS and I had to remove anything tobacco related from my site. to be in compliance.

I removed that email from PP and sent them an email informing them that I did not have their logo on the site, did not accept any funds via that email acct and that I was removing that particular email from the acct. I thought I took care of it, guess what - some months later they shut down my PP acct. because I did not comply with their requests. They suspend your account from sending/receiving funds and can also freeze the balance you have in there for up to 180 days I think it is.

I made repeated phone calls to try to get it corrected - you may as well talk to the wall because they don't listen and don't give a shit. I went through their system and sent numerous emails trying to get it corrected - that did not work either.

...though I can't find it now, I thought Rod had posted a thread where he stated that PP had changed their policy and was processing tobacco transactions now.

If they changed it I'd be interested in seeing that.

The one thing that used to make me laugh once they shut my acct down was when someone would come into the store and whip out their PP credit card to pay for tobacco purchases.

When the "f" did tobaccco become such a pariah? With so many problems in the world today it seems so trivial.

Sorry to hear that Al but it's great to see you've found a better alternative. Bank of America sucks!!!! My wife and I cancelled and closed all accounts that we had with them a few months ago. If I can help it they will never get any business from me again. With all the recent events that have transpired they have an extremely bumpy road ahead of them.

I am sure that they accept sales from casinos and businesses that sell porn, junk food, and alcohol - many things our nanny state government says are bad for us. I wonder if they accept sales from businesses that happen to also sell cigarettes such as a grocery store or drug store??

The legal departments of credit card companies are terrified of underage tobacco sales. I'm not saying that I agree with the solution, but it is a convenient excuse.

Sorry to hear Al. I left B of A many, many years ago due to really bad customer service. Every chance I get I try to get people to leave them, looks like their doing it themselves now. cool.

.....A year or two down the road, you'll hear someone say the words: "The tobacco retailers have been collecting and remitting out of state taxes for over a year now, there is no reason to believe that other retailers can't do the same with sales taxes".

Gents, it's ALL about the taxes! Follow the money. Many places do not charge sales tax on item they ship out of state and the states are now using the strong arm of the Fed to go after taxes for them.

Does anybody remember the Gold Standard and paying with CASH!?!?!?!?

Welcome to the Socialist States of North America! Like it or STFU! ;) :p ....... :0

What a load of scheisse!! Good job finding a better bank... I do have a BOA credit card that I never use. It's just for emergencies but I think I will be canceling it now.
