Latest Cigar Box Project

......so why change the story for what inspired the finished project? Just seems kinda odd to me. Carry on...
If you're really that interested in it mmm, the part where I said "Linda and I were just talking about the same thing" was before Opus Mex contacted me, so it's really not that odd at all. I guess the only odd thing is that he contacted me not long after we had already been discussing it. Thanks for the permission to carry on though, I'd have been concerned if I hadn't got your approval!

BkCloud, hopefully that satisfies your interest as well.

Wade, I guess it's just not in your nature to show any type of humbleness. You did fine until your last 2 sentences.

THEN YOU SHOT YOURSELF IN THE FUGGIN FOOT

One scenario has your conversation with Opus Mex spurring on the lamp's construction, while the other makes it sound like it was inspired directly from stacking cigar boxes in the basement. No big deal really , but I find it odd you would find the need to put that different spin on it, in two posts minutes apart.

And since you are negotiating sales / trades here, you might want to consider having Rod move this thread from the Lobby - but you already know that since we've had this discussion before. ;)

The biggest reason mmm for the different "spin" on it was simply that Adrian is a member here, so explaining that PM just made sense. Since he's not a member of CF as far as I know, I just didn't feel the need to go along the lines of "a member from another site", so I just told the story as it happened, yes, Linda and I had this discussion days before Adrian PM'd me, so really no blood no foul. Both explanations are 100% factual.

I could care less about all this extra carricular(sp) bullshit.

I would take a lamp with the Cohiba tube, Diamond Crown Maximus Robusto, Padron, Arturo Fuente Hemingway Sig., and any other premium box you can come up with. The only thing I'd add is if you can find two boxes that open in the middle as the base. Giving me storage with half an opening on each side. Name your price. It is now a custom lamp and a very nice one I might add. If you'd rather take this to PM's, I'll understand. Great job bro!!!!

Yeah, what he said, except instead of a couple of boxes that open in the middle, I want all of them full.

Great Lamp Wade.

Securing everything on the allthread was somewhat difficult as you couldn't really tighten to much for fear of crushing the tube. Without the tube, I think it'd be much easier and easier to ship, but then again, anything worth doing.....

Easy to fix, just buy some tubing just big enough to fit over the "allthread" (plastic or copper), cut it to length and hide inside the cigar tube. Use a jam nut in the box below the cigar tube, and one above the tube.

edit to clarify

Hmmmm, very clever, thank you so much, I may have to unassemble mine and do just that. Thanks for the idea.

That would be cool but they can't open in the middle as the rod goes all the way through! The only box that can open is the bottom one as I put the jamb nut on the inside of the lid instead of the bottom of the box. I could have the boxes full Ken, but you ain't gettin' the sticks out unless you disassemble the lamp! :D

Wade: We can agree that, in fact, they were different stories. That’s my point - thanks for the explanation.

Dickson / Fatken: Your posts reminds of an issue we’ve had in the past. We had a period here on CP when some members from another forum were selling Cubans on a regular basis in the Trading Room – their forum had experienced problems with members selling large quantities of Cubans for profit and had shut down their own trading forum. The sellers didn’t participate much elsewhere on the forum – the majority of the their postings were in the trading room .
These guys were regularly selling 4 sets of 5 packs of Cubans. It was obvious that they were buying a box of 25 Cubans @ $240 (.. for example ) and then selling 4 - 5 packs at $60.00 each – effectively smoking their 5er for free .

Some long timers here spoke up, casting the spotlight on these guy’s sales and making the rest of the forum aware of what was happening - these sellers were just here to move product and profit from the forum, even if it was in small amounts. The seller's were quite irritated that their actions were being scrutinized, and their posted responses were frequently sarcastic - a familiar trend with these types. Eventually these seller's realized their gig was up - and they split instead of becoming regular participants here.

When this happened, some newer members here complained ( many of whom were new to purchasing Cubans) that these sales were no big deal because these guys were providing a service for Cubans at near going rates - maintaining the integrity of the trading forum meant nothing to them.

Wade is not here just to sell his creations, but he does a fine job of promoting what he has available, if anyone is interested : humidors, custom trays, cigar box clocks and lamps. Wade, if you don’t want anyone to question your intentions, then why not keep these threads in the right forum - Hot Deals / Trading Forum? ( This has all been discussed previously yada yada yada.... ) . Please keep it in the proper area to maintain the integrity of the forum.

An idea to ponder: Why not decide a fixed price for a lamp – say $75.00 each - then talk to Rod about selling them on a special order consignment basis @ the CigarPass Store, at an increased price – say $115.00 each.. CigarPass / Rod would receive $35 per sale to go to supporting the forum, and you would legitimize your self promotion and sales on his forum. End result, you may not sell as many lamps / clocks / trays / etc. as you would otherwise, but it would be the right way to go about it.

MMM - I greatly appreciate the members of this forum keeping the integrity of trading in check. I know there have been times I would have fallen for some shady characters BS had it not been for a FOG calling them out. I know I am way to trusting, but I am learning. :)

I do agree with you regarding Wade and his intentions. I think he is a great guy and a terrific member on this forum.

But he makes these as a 'hobby'!

Be careful of copyrights : linky

With all due respect, you have totally misunderstood the intent of the post on the lamp, humidors, (not sure what the custom tray is). The humidor post I made was simply to show others what I've made, I've never taken an order for one although several have PM'd about it. The lamp is the same thing, several have asked, only Opus Mex has been taken care of as he asked me before the lamp post was ever put on the site. Again, simply posted just to show what was done. Several members have posted threads on walk in humidors they've built, smoking rooms and such yet we don't chastise them for potentially having someone ask if they could do the same for them.

The clocks are different, Gonz (who I know from a motorcycle site also) sent me a PM say something along the lines of "hey, I saw those on CF, why not post them here"? My reply was similar to "maybe in time, but for now I just want to get used to the forum and see what the site has to offer", it wasn't till later that I decided I'd put them out there to see if there was any interest. So then all the issues started over the clocks, and it was mentioned to put it in the Vendor area, fine, really isn't an issue to me where they are, hell, I haven't made one post to that thread or added one clock since, so you win.

The lamps are not for sale, I'm not putting up a post where I'll entertain orders at all, I'll do Adrians as he asked me to and I said I would. If anyone else wants one, they can PM me and well work something out there, not that I'm trying to hide anything, but no sense adding fuel to these ridiculous fires. Actually if the lamps are PM only, the best thing you can do is stop posting to the thread, it will die and get buried and they will be forgotten anyway. Which is no loss as they were never intended to be a for sale/trade item. It was informational only.

What kind of material is the shade? How well do you think the bands will stand up over time?

I noticed that the guy who built the lamps on that other site that grateful1 provided the link to didn't opt to put bands on the shades. His shades are definitely high end and REALLY "make" the lamp so to speak. I also noticed that he charges about $200.00 for his lamps :0 which I think is insane BUT if he has to spend around $100.00 on those fancy shades, I suppose the price isn't really that bad.

The only problem with this is I don't know if there's much of a market for $200.00 cigar box lamps.

Another area of concern is you may want to think about stiffening up the part of the box where the rod fastens to it (the bottom of the lamp). Most cigar boxes are made of relatively thin material and this would most likely be a weak point in the design of the lamp.

That's a really cool lamp. Just a thought, but maybe you could ship them disassembled? Might make the shipping a little easier and safer.
