Places to HERF in Vegas

If you live in Las Vegas, I have a favor to ask of you. We're trying to plan the Vegas herf for June, and we're all coming up empty handed. I've gone up to Vegas several times the past couple of months, and am having a really a hard time finding a venue. It's very difficult with the new smoking ban in place.

We're looking for a restaurant off the strip, which has an outdoor patio. Example: a place like say Outback. Some place where we can smoke outside, eat and drink. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

I live in California (with all the smoke nazi's), and I know of a ton of places in So Cal which would accommodate us. I'm hoping someone from Vegas can offer some help.

Wait a minute....smokig ban....in Vegas? What did I miss? Not that long ago, you could smoke anywhere in Vegas...what happened?

SUcks cuz it passed while I was in Vegas.
One day I was smokeing everywhere..a cple days later ..I could not smoke anywhere.

With the exception of Casino's and bars that dont serve any food.

Its a relevant question. Yes, the citizens of Nevada snuck in an indoor ban that affects all restaraunts and most bars. Casinos are exempt and there may be other exemptions. There were already very few spots for cigar smokers, and now, that's even fewer. Rod has found that we could get a room in any of the casinos, but price ranges from rediculous to "you got to be f'ing kidding me!" At the moment, I'm canvassing all the Elks, VFW, and Legion halls inside of 10 miles from the strip. Of the 13 venues in that category, only one rents meeting rooms. When I asked about cigars, I got, "gee, I don't think so. Yall could smoke in the parking lot, though" Gee, I don't think so.

There are half a dozen venues in Denver. Rod reports about a dozen in SoCal, SmokyBalls says the Outlaw could handle our crowd. You just can't tell me there is no room in Vegas for us!
 
We kicked around some ideas and Lkyman is working with a contact at Green Valley Ranch Hotel & Casino to see if we can do the buffet that way everyone can eat and drink what they want, it's off the strip, and it’s reasonably priced. After eating were thinking passes to the pool where we will be able to HERF. With the new ban in place another option would be someone's house like last year and possibly a BBQ (this would also be more conducive for the giveaways, etc.). Let us know what you think.
 
That pool looks cool, but a handshake deal that could fall through literally at the last moment is unacceptable. We're asking brothers to spend hundreds of dollars to come to Vegas. Inviting 50-75 people to your house is a terrifying prospect that isn't fair for any of the Vegas brothers to even consider. The Main Event needs to be on or near the Strip, but I'm thinking a Sunday BBQ sure would hit the spot. What did you have in mind?

Have any of you been to a cigar shop named The Cigar Lounge? We're looking at this shop and also to a Cuban restaraunt that could host the Main event.

I was just going to suggest renting a house with a big back yard and pool. Maybe splitting it between several B/SOTL's, or couples? That is if we cannot find a large enough house with one of the local B/SOTL.

True. Could give a call I suppose if there is enough interest?
 
Rod - one thought might be to call the B&M's in the area and ask them if they have any good ideas. There are also lots of boutique stores in many of the casinos; Mandaly Bay, MGM Grand, and Hard Rock Hotel come to mind. Sorry if you've thought of this, but it just may be that they have dealt with this type of problem before and know some solutions. Heck, call Casa Fuente and ask them where they hold their events....??

Worst case, call the Vegas Chamber of Commerce and tell them you're going to have the event somewhere else..... :angry:

Bill, yes please call the house owner. Pull no punches - there will be 30+ cigar smokers there. We can keep cigars out of the house if necessary. HERFing at Casa Gregor last year was quite enjoyable.

Tom we're a step ahead of you. We're trying to work a deal with a B&M thats about 5 miles from the strip. It seems that Saturday nights are slow for him. His store can accomodate 45 comfortably. His per head suggeste price is high, but I think we can work with it. He is 1st generation Cuban American and owns an interest in a Cuban restauraunt. If we get too big for his shop, we would have room there as a backup. Rod is going out later this month to check it out.

The only drawback to either of these choices is transportation. Its not an expensive cab ride, but its still a cab ride. I imagine cabbies on the strip get used to short rides, but that sure pisses them off elsewhere.
 
I'm going up to Vegas next weekend to check out the las vegas cigar lounge. Prices up there are very high for the next couple of months due to all of the conventions, so next weekend is the only weekend that rates are reasonable.

I thought about renting out a house for the weekend in June, but prices seemed quite high. If someone wants to research this a bit more, I'd appreciate it!

I'm hoping the las vegas cigar lounge works out...
 
Occasionally I go to the las vegas cigar lounge...It is on Sahara (not to far from my house and where most of the guys work). We don't like smoking there because we can only smoke there if we buy thier cigars. It has a nice lounge area in the front of the store, but I really doubt (even wth the backroom they have) that there would be anough room to hold as many people without it bieng crowded, they have a small (for vegas) but pretty well stocked humidor.

Make sure you ask these questions.

Can we smoke our own cigars?

Can we drink our own drinks? (alcohol and non)

The reason I ask this is because there concerns have came up in the past about going there.

Me and Lkyman went there once to smoke and had a good time...I just think it might be a bit small.

I like the Idea of renting a house, but I don't like the idea of cleaning it when we are done (lol)

Call me when you go to that shop Rod...there is a much better spot even closer to the strip that I think we should check out

They have the nicest off strip place to smoke, but once again, a bit pricey, but very big. They have a two story lounge. Only members are allowed to smoke there, but it is worth a phone call.

As for Ramon's place, we're covered on all fronts. His cover includes (for now) 3 premiums from his humi. We asked the questions up front and BYO is perfectly fine, drinks and smokes.

I'm all for competition though. You guys and Rod can see what you can work out. This is looking better by the day!
