Bourbon barrel pick ..... gauging interest?

I finally got ahold of the rep fir whiskey thief, this is the email with details on cost and such.

Turns out they do have a proofed or cut options as well. But just being up front I'm not interested in them as much as barrel proof.

Great speaking with you the other day!



Here is some quick info about our private barrel picks. I know the email is a little cumbersome. Just let me know if you run into any questions.



We just recently opened our doors to accepting some single barrel picks, so we're excited about this program and very honored that you expressed interest in our product!



For our selection process we'll have 3-5 separate barrel samples ready for you to taste. We'd invite you to come back to the farm to enjoy that process here or we can send samples out if it's just not feasible to make another trip. We'll select those samples ahead of time based on age, a particular mash bill, or other criteria if you have any. We'll only select barrels that we feel are prime and will let you know ahead of time if we don't have something available to meet your criteria. Pricing will be based on the age of the barrel you select as well as whether you want barrel strength or want to proof down your bourbon. Here is a schedule and I can help you walk through the process:



$12 per year for barrel strength bourbon per 750ml bottle

$10 per year for 100 proof bourbon per 750ml bottle

$8 per year for 90 proof bourbon per 750ml bottle

$6 per year for 80 proof bourbon per 750ml bottle



Essentially, we'll empty the barrel and proof it down (if wanted) to your specifications and then let you know how many bottles we get from your barrel. We've been in operation for 12 years. Most of our available inventory is between 4–7-year stock, but we do have some others if interested.

For example, say you selected a 6-year-old barrel and wanted to keep it at original barrel strength bourbon. We empty the barrel and receive (200) 750ml bottles. You would pay $72 per bottle for a total of $14,400 plus sales tax for the entire barrel. That fee would include our standard Whiskey Thief bottle with your logo incorporated into the design.

We also offer a customized front label for an upcharge of $500-$1,000. If you need help designing a label, we do have a designer on staff to assist. The barrel is also yours after it's been emptied if you would like it. We require a $1,500 deposit after agreeing upon a barrel (doesn't need to be paid the day of selection, but soon afterwards) and then full payment would be expected once your product is all packaged and ready for pickup. Unfortunately, we can't ship the product out of state at this time, but you can pick the goods up from our farm. The label is the hardest variable to predict in the equation for the timing piece, but typically we can deliver in 6-8 weeks.

Keep in mind that the number of bottles that you get out of barrel can vary significantly (typically between 150–250 barrel proof bottles). We are unique in that we will work with you if you don't want to purchase the entire lot. We're a smaller operation and would gladly keep a portion to sell through our distillery and gift shop.

I'm interested in two bottles. I personally don't have a preference of grain, but a blended is usually what I gravitate towards. As far as proof, barrel proof is cool but 100 is usually prefered for drinking with a single cube or straight up.

Would you be shipping them to us since they won't ship out of state and likely not to 30 different addresses?

Do they require to be labeled by them, or is that something we could produce and have you apply before shipping?
 
I'll be in for at least two bottles, maybe more, if barrel proof. I know some guys that may be interested and sent them the info as well.
 
The label would have to be applied by them, by law. They can not ship to individuals, we can discuss shipping options. But I would be responsible for getting the products to the buyers.

First step is going to be setting up a time-line, when the barrel can be chosen, who can be there, then figure in time from barrel to friends.

Once we know the when and we have enough folks interested I would collect the cost and pay for the barrel. Then after that we can check out a few label choices, pick a label and bottle the product.

I would go pick it up and handle distribution.

Yes when I initially went to thier distillery during the tasting everything I tried that day was barrel proof. I did not know until she messaged me that they can, if preferred, proof down the bottles.

I however would not be advocating for this.
 
Let's push hard to get some more bottles spoken for so we can make this happen.

Ping some other CP brothers, and ping your friends who drink bourbon.
