OK, I am not the brightest bulb in the world but I am not an idiot either. But I am having the hardest time keeping butane in my Xikar lighter!

I dial it down to low, then fill it up for about 60-120 seconds and then it takes a few clicks before it lights up. After lighting about 3-5 sticks it goes out and I have to fill it up again.

Am I missing something here or is there some kinda secret way to fill these things so they last a bit longer?

I don't think one standard Xikar is gonna go out after lighting just several cigars

Thanks

I have to fill my butane lighter (Prince PB207) upside down. You might try that way.

Providing you are filling it correctly, it sounds like you may have a leak. It should last longer than just 3-5 cigars, unless you've got the flame turned way up and torch the heck out of each one.

My Colibri lasts through about 10-15 cigars before needing a refill. I have it set on a medium-size flame.

Edited to add some hints on refilling: Be sure to bleed it prior to filling it up. And add the butane in 5-6 second intervals, not all at once. Hope this helps.

Yeah, your not draining it. The lighter works more off the pressure then the fuel. You burn up the fuel, the pressure remains in the lines. A eyeglasses screw driver is your best tool for this. Press down on the inlet everytime before you refill. By the way, stop turning the thing down, the adjusters have small gaskets that can get bound up from overuse!

Thanks guys - I have never bled so I'll start there

As mentioned, Slider, there's your problem, plus maybe a couple of other points noted above.

Many many years ago, the Bride and I both smoked cigarettes and we had 3 decent butane lighters. A Colibri, and 2 others I don't remember the name of right now. We could never get any use out of 'em so we stashed 'em and I bought 2 Zippos for us.

Since I started on cigars earlier this year and got a triple flame torch, I was told to remember to bleed every time you refill. I dug out those old lighters (they were empty by now) and filled them proper. They work awesome and while they're pretty useless for cigars, they're great for my pipe.

I think the other guys hit it on the head - purge it before filling, and use quality triple filtered fuel. DO NOT use the "Ronson" garbage you get at the grocery store.

I've had very good luck with the "King" butane I got from Little Havana. He's the guy with the cool hygrometers and decent lighter deals as well....

Good Luck - B.B.S.
