Working Mans Pass

Ok, boys. I got the box today. Damn that is a big box for just 15 cigars! I see some cool stuff. The post office closes early tomorrow, so the box goes out on Monday.

Toss it up here buddy! I'm ready.

we should have done some kind of box race? That might be a good idea for a big two box pass sometime.

THe west Coast would be at a disadvantage as they have to cover more miles. I did think of that though.

I have a quick question. Although this pass isn't to me yet, I was wondering how you go about figuring out MSRP on the cigars? It seems every website I visit has a different price listing for the same cigar. Anyways, I was just hoping maybe someone knew of a website that listed the MSRP for cigars. I just don't want to do an unfair P&T.

To find a particular price for a cigar I usually find myself googling the cigar and can find the price spread. I try to check a few sites so I can find the true price range. Plus I still stop in my local shops and look around at their stock.

arent't you supposed to wait and see if the put/takes are approved by the host & participants? i may be wrong, but this is how the other passes i have participated in worked.

Its general courtesy to get them approved by at least the participants...i ususally send the host a PM and get them looked over before sending a pass back out on the road.

I did with emo prior to my receiving the package.

I try and find 3 internet stores that carry a box of the cigar. I go for the 3 lowest. Do a cost averaging for per stick price. That's how I do all my comparison, unless I can find a MSRP on the makers web site.

I know the cigarweekly.com has MSRP's in their database linked from the home page.

As far posting puts and takes, it is in good form to post before mailing. Sometimes this doesn't happen because life gets in the way. This basically protects to passers by allowing any kind of mistake to be corrected before sending the pass off, along with protecting the host. If you have been in enough passes, puts and takes are generally not a big issue. But being newer passers, puts vs takes are scrutinized more . This is how you guys are starting to build a reputation as a passer, and also your reputation for being honest.

Which brings me to the host evaluating what is fair and what isn't. Unless stated otherwise in a pass, puts vs takes are first evaluated by MSRP, then rareness. If the puts vs takes dont seem to add up, then ultimately it is up to the host to determine how to makethings right. More often than not, a PM is sent explaining what is perceived by the host. Generally it is chalked up to a learning experience, unless it is obvious that someone is taking advantage of the pass.

It is perfectly acceptable, as a pass participant to PM someone and let them know that their puts are a little light. Actually, self policing is a preferred method in my passes as it allows for: 1. Healthy communication 2. Ownership of the pass by the participants 3. It allows the pass to run smoothly in the absence of the host 4. It gives ya guys practice before running your own pass.

Wow, the west coast box is really moving along. Go figure, it takes less time to get from mail box to mail box when you add a few hundred miles to the trip. Acutally, I am guessing the mail hub for the west coast of FL is Tampa, which added time getting it to BMD. No worries, nuttin you can do about the USPS.
