Didn't you feel more or less the same about Laphroaig Triple Wood when you first opened the bottle?
My initial impresssions of the PVW 20 I was not blown away. Don't get me wrong it is a damn fine bourbon but, I was not blown away by a transcendental experience. I did revisit the bottle after being open for about 6 weeks and it had improved and I got a little feeling of what has everyone raving about.
Last night revisited an old friend. Laphroaig QC. An oldy but a goodie.
Yup, I absolutely did. I had known that "wheaters" were subject to signifigant interaction with air so I was expectng the PVW20 to evolve/change. That one did not surprise me. The Triple Wood was definitely an eye opener as I did not anticipate an Islay to experience the level of change that I perceived. It was much more balance than my recollection and was a damn fine dram.
Lesson was definitely learned I now open a bottle have about an ounce or so make a mental note and put it on the shelf for a few weeks and revisit so I can get a more complete experience.
