What's in your glass....2017

Bird Dog is terrible. A buddy handed me a glass of some, neat, this summer. Quite a surprise and not in a good way.

There appears to be way better options at the price point. Either some actually like it or they were suckered by marketing and or sales.

I was suckered by the beautiful woman hawking that trash. Like I said, you live and you learn. To me the bourbon market has gotten stupid. I'll just go back to a few I know won't let me down.

Playing some mystery flask tonight. I'm pretty sure it's some Ghosted Reserve scotch.

Been on a Sherry kick lately. Really loving my Glendronach 15yo revival, such a rich classic dram. Glad I bunkered a few away before they disappeared.

I ended up at a high end restaruant that had the full lineup of this years BTAC. It was $24 for a pretty healthy pour. I'm a sucker for aged wheaters and grabbed the WLW. We were with 2 other couples and I ordered the WLW for them as well. They both agreed that it was some of the best bourbon they've had, imho this years expression is phenomenal. I only wish this was 10 years ago so I could go out and buy a bottle or case.

Paul Masson VSOP brandy in some egg nog last night while I trimmed the Christmas tree. Don't know much about brandy so it's probably not a well respected label.

I still remember the year I was able to score two cases---six bottles---of George T. Stagg. Man, those were the days!

Boar,

Stagg was the first Bourbon I had that competely blew my mind. It was my favorite spirit on the planet for many years its still in my top5. I was fortunate enough to save a few bottles from back in the day. I have a tradition of opening a Stagg on Thanksgiving and enjoy it through the holidays. Adds to my enjoyment of the Holidays.

Talk about serendipity and coincidence!

I was almost out of Reyka Vodka and swung by my local Spec's for a bottle---manager, a friend, wanted to chat and I'm like, it's cold, it's raining, I've been working 9 hours, yada yada yada. He tells me it'll be worth my time. And I leave with a bottle of George T. Stagg. First one I've seen in years. And at RETAIL.

They've started getting a trickle of things in---I got that Birthday Bourbon, and two bottles of Blanton's---but they keep them locked in the front office and whether you get in there or not depends on how many "points" you have on your Key Card.

I have 17,000. I was on the corporate list for this bottle! :D

Boar,

That is great. Funny how these things seem to happen. Enjoy it in Good Health.

I haven't received a BTAC bottle in 3 years. I did win a lottery for a Lot B last year and one for a Weller 12 this. The only saving grace is that while the Premium LE whiskey's have gone the way of the dodo there has been a large uptick in Private Selections and Barrel proof offerings.
