Still stuck in 1982 February this time. There wasn't much going on around my birthday in late January. I thimk we just went to a local club, had dinner and went home. The next day the wife says she has the 10th of February off and wants me to go shopping with her in Seattle. Now the 10th is in the middle of the week and I tell her I just can't take the day off from the Marine Corps whenever I want, plus I have to give 2 weeks notice just to put in for leave. This leads to an unexpected meltdown in the AVB house. Anyway it was so bad I said that I would try. Now the only way this was going to work was I had to get my Lt to approve it and the company clerk to type it up without the 1stSgt finding out. So what best greases the wheels of military red tape? Booze. I grt my LT a handle of JD and the clerk a case of Miller and I magically have a day of leave on the 10th.

Are we done yet? Of course not. The wife starts in on how it would be so nice to get a room the night before since we didn't do anything special for my birthday and we could get an early start on shopping and get home before rush hour. it didn't take much for me to agree so I said to pick something within reason and make the reservation,

Fast forward to the 9th...I get home change and we jump in the car for the 60-90 minute drive to Seattle. The quickest way to get to Seattle for us is by Ferry. If you time it right the trip is an hour. If you miss the ferry then you have to wait for the next one. We got it right this time and was at the hotel by 6:30. First thing I want to do is take a shower so I hop in the bathroom and when I come out she is standing there in fishnets, boots, shorts and an AC/DC t shirt holding two 3rd row center tickets to the 8PM show down the street.
AC/DC are on the Those About To Rock tour and I didn't have the heart to tell her it was the same tour we saw in November of 81 which was why I didn't plan to go again. Anyway, it was a great night in all the ways you can imagine and well worth the effort,

When I was 10 my Mom took me to my very first concert to see Elvis at the Long Beach arena. She use to play stacks of his 33's as I grew up. This was the song I danced in the isle to though....LOL!
What a great memory and story... Unfortunately for me my birth and his death were only 6 days apart, so I didn't get the opportunity to see him live. My mom loved him as well and named me after him...

ETA: side note Elvis and myself share 8x great grandfather

I was on Elvis Presley Blvd trying to get to a BBQ joint when I hit traffic. I was stuck long enough that I played Rod Stewart's Greatest Hits Vol 1 & 2 all the way through before turning on the radio only to find out Elvis had died and everybody was descending on Graceland. Even after getting off the main drag it still took another hour to go the 4 miles to get my Q. With over 6,000 records and CDs I have one Elvis song that came on a compilation. Never was a fan.

So it’s official @AVB hates all the music I love… 😝 Lana, now Elvis… Should we get Don Williams out of the way now!?! 🤣

Don't know Don, don't own Don and wouldn't know a Don Williams song unless you told me who it was. So no I don't hate him I just don't listen to C&W. The other two are a different story. I've never heard a song written by Elvis - and neither have you.

I am aware of Elvis not writing the majority of the songs he recorded and performed. But he was a hell of a performer and pioneer in music. Now LDR & Don Williams in my opinion are both some of the best song writers to ever do it in their genres. I was just busting your balls, I love all music and I love your post with all your great stories. Keep’em coming…

The answer is NONE. He got co-writing credit because the lable paid a different rate to thr real songwriter if they gave him credit. If they didn't go along Elvis didn't record their songs ever.

I think I've run out of 1982 shows except for clubs with lessor known acts like Rail or local favorites like Baby Gunn, I already mentioned the ACDC concert in November of 81 so I'll continue with that year. September of 1981 brought the Allman Brothers Band into the Seattle Arena supporting the Brothers of the Road Album. The band was not what it used to be nor could you see them becoming the premier Jam band of the 2000-2020 decades but there were flashes of brilliance in the 2.5 hour show notably Statesboro Blues (Blind Willy McTell cover) that Dickie Betts owned. If you were a fan it was an OK show, if you weren't it didn't convince you to become one. The wife was not convinced.
