What is your favorite thing about cigars? What is your least favorite thing about cigars?

What I mean is this...Is it the collecting? Is it the smoke (if so what part)? Is it the purchase? Is it trying a new one? ETC ETC

My 2nd favorite part about this hobby of ours is when I open my humi, not knowing what I want, right before I select the cigar I'm going to smoke.

I think the greatest things about cigars is how it can just be a perfect compliment to a great time. Last night was my 5 year high school reunion at an all male school and just hanging out with friends I see every week and friends I haven't seen in 5 years, enjoying a cigar and being somewhat drunk was just fantastic. Passing out the cigars to people who don't normally smoke and enjoying it together with the guys adds to the bonding experience and helps build make a memorable experience. The cigars at that point always taste the best! I mentioned a similar experience a few weeks back at my dad's 70th birthday where my brother and cousins went outside and just talked while enjoying our smokes.

On the flip side the worst part of a smoke is the re-lighting after it goes out for whatever reason! I truly hate that

Anyway, I'm very interested in hearing what you guys have to say !

Thanks.

I have many favorite parts. I love the whole pre-light ritual. Selecting a cigar, choosing a perfect accompanying alcoholic beverage, the perfect cut to remove the cap, the pre-light draw, the toast and the first puff. I love that certain moment when a cigar goes from being ok to really opening up flavor wise. I love the moment when the volume of smoke goes from average to smokestack. I love it when I start to detect a good buzz coming on (alcohol or nicotine doesn't matter). I love it when my wife instinctively shows up at just the right time to hand me a new beer while I'm out smoking. I love sitting in complete silence and watching the people around me as I have a cigar. I love it when there is absolutely no wind and I can watch the thick clouds of smoke just slowly float away. I almost forgot how much fun it is to go to the B&M when I know I can afford to buy something I actually like.

My favorite part....

The flavours that engulf my mouth, even though its only air and random oxidized particles that pass through my lips.

The aromas that secrete from the stick.

Like Marc said, the looks of the people surround me as I smoke a cigar are also part of the atmosphere, whether they turn their noses up and pinch their nostrils or they come a little closer to bask in the sweet sweet scent of my tobacco treat.

A double expresso from Starbucks (only 1.95 plus tax, I thought it would be atleast 10 dollars from Starbucks) to compliment my cigar.

And of course the relaxation I feel after finishing a good smoke.

The parts I hate...

not having any cigars and the nicotine buzz... the buzz really kills my relaxation.

Like: Guady bands, tasty smoke, cigar smells in general, humidors

Dislike: Overpriced brands, inconsistencies, nicotene sickness

Maybe I copy previous posts, but Marcos, it was really pure pleasure to read this post, wish it was longer :)

The smell of the walkin humidor, better than new car smell. Coming into work and seeing that Opus just came in, or a brand new special edition. Taking the perfect draw, releasing slowly, and examining the cigar, it's ash, its band. Staring down hippies while I puff on a Churchill.

Davidoff. The perfection of the smooth wrapper, the subtle flavor, the perfect razor sharp ash, the simplest, purest, most beautiful band in the world.

Sending out a package of great smokes, and getting some great smokes in return.

Dislikes...stale lingering after-aromas. That's about it. A small price to pay. :)

All great posts!

Do any of you put on some music when you smoke? I find that the experience is not complete unless I have some smokin' music. My favorites are:

Lightnin' Hopkins
Son House
Muddy Waters
Koko Taylor
and the greatest musician I ever saw live Buddy Guy

Fish

My favorite part is selecting just the right cigar to compliment whatever type of mood I am in.

Least favorite part is cigar breath, and having to change clothes so I dont bother my roomates.

I usually listen to music when I am smoking alone. Music choices include Mozart, Johnny Cash, Norah Jones, Beatles, Bob Dylan, and sometimes a little Chevelle or Audioslave.

No doubt. My favorite part is sharing my love of the leaf with others. Whether it be a newbie getting handed his first good smoke, or an experienced BOTL being gifted something I know they'll appreciate....I love it, and love sharing the expereince with them. Especially if that experience is as describe by Marcos!

My favorite part of smoking a cigar is the smoking.
It is my “down time”. Whether I’m sitting on my porch or driving my truck, it is sheer relaxation.

My least favorite part is finishing the cigar and getting back to the daily grind.

Favorite things:

Choosing the cigar
The relaxation during smoking
Smoking with good friends
Sharing
(odd I know) The taste in my mouth the morning after

Least favorite:
Gag reflex
immature Habanos

Fish, you know Buddy Guy has a bar out here in Chicago right?

I think the Marcos post encaptured a lot of what many smokers feel. Great post!

Smoking cigars at some point in your smoking career becomes ritualistic. I know I have mine. Even my girlfriend knows what they are. If she is over and sees me cleaning my house furiously, she knows that means I am going to smoke a cigar. I don't know what it is, but I cannot smoke in peace unless my surroundings are clean and in order. I love the anticipation of knowing what I am going to be doing. Its an experience and quite honestly for myself: a form of therapy. I cannot count the number of times I have had a bad day, something bad happen to me or what not and I came home, cleaned up in preparation briefly then started out on my session. Setting up my cigar ashtray, my long sulpher free wood matches and Xikar cutter...get my glass of ice water, usually a tea or coffee and maybe a finger of scotch or cognac. I usually watch something on DVD that I know well or listen to music, usually along the lines of jazz or classical if I had a bad day. I love after I have gone through my lighting routine and just sat back to recline on my couch the feeling of anxiety going away. Its as if with each draw from my cigar and cloud of smoke that I exhale, the stress and worries of the day just seem to float up out of my body with the smoke and leave me. Maybe its the breathing thats involved with smoking, I don't know but I sure do love it.

My least favorite is disappointment. Hate getting my hopes up for a cigar I am going to try and then having it let me down....ashtray mouth isnt much fun either!
