What Is This Thing?

A while back, my boss gave me this thing that he calls a cigar "twister". It looks just like a regular pen, except where the actual tip of the pen would be, there's just a little hole. He said it "twists" holes in cigars. It's made of stainless steel, by Peterson's.
Oh. The one end comes totally out, where you would unscrew a pen. Are these things any good? I guess I can buy a package or two of some cheapos and practice, but is it worth my time?

Yeah, that's what it looks like, a punch. This thing would just crush the cigars,
though. I'm a novice, obviously, but maybe I'm doing it wrong. I bought some Garcia Y Vega's to practice!

The "pen hole" is not meant to be used to punch the cigar. One of the two inside ends will be sharpened. This brand of twist cutters does dull amazingly quickly. A little work with a dremel can sharpen it again sufficiently though.

In cigar punches I like the The Xikar Twist Bullet punch. They run a bit under $30. Vector is now making a spring loaded retracting punch that runs about half that, and it should be quite nice as well.

Just remember, as with any punch, twist a lot, push a little.
Don't just push or you'll destroy your cigar.
Twist twist twist.
