What is the proper way to light a cigar?

Drawing the flame into a cigar with a torch lighter is much more difficult than using a soft flame or matches. This technique was obviously created years before anyone thought up these crazy high tech lighters. Lighting your cigar with 1200 degrees of laser like flame is a different animal.

I use my Blazer lighter at times and try to keep the flame as far away from the cigar as I can, but it does touch it at times. The more wind proof the lighter is, the harder it is to pull the flame into the cigar.

Soft flame good....torch not always so good....

I use a soft flame for everything but lighting a cigar in the wind.
On the golf course, I use a torch.
For the exact reasons stated above.

I use a soft flame as well. It seems to give me less of a chemical build-up taste. That's just this noob's opinion, for what it's worth.

This is pretty interesting - I generally toast the foot with good results, but I use a torch lighter for this. Trying to toast the foot with matches or a soft flame obviously doesn't work as well...LOL

I am now forced to go home, smoke a cigar and try the alternative method... :laugh:

It's been my experience that toasting the foot is beneficial if you use a torch. However, if you use a soft flame, The Master's method as described above is the way to go.

Soft flame is my choice or, drunk at 3am with my face in the campfire! :laugh:
