When it comes to bottles I totally agree, but on tap Pliny is a different beast that I enjoy more then blind pig

Normally for me, the more hops the better, but the Blind Pig had a little more malty "sweetness" that I thought really balances this beer out nicely. I wish I had somewhere around here to try them both on tap.

Funny how taste is subjective. I thought Blind Pig was all hops with little to no malt character at all, and I thought Pliny was much more balanced.

Anyway, last night I had a bottle of Theobroma. Glad I tried it but I wouldn't go looking for it again.
 
Pumpkin Lager from Lakefront Brewery. OK, but I wish the spice was a little more evident.

Bell's Kalamazoo Stout.

Second one I've had now, and I just can't taste anything in it. I can sense roasted malts. Reviews say it has a licorice component, but I'm drawing a blank. Won't be looking for more of these.

Cody! No! You didn't wait til now to drink it did you? You lost some hops flavor buddy. LOL. Russian River IPA's, like most CA IPA's, lose their hop profile pretty fast.

That's one of the few Bell's beers I've had that I wasn't impressed with.

We got the first significant snow of the year, so I hunkered down with some of my big homebrews, a quad and a dubbel. Drinking a '98 Bigfoot right now that I got at the Stuffed Sandwich with Cali Mike. :thumbs:

We got the first significant snow of the year, so I hunkered down with some of my big homebrews, a quad and a dubbel. Drinking a '98 Bigfoot right now that I got at the Stuffed Sandwich with Cali Mike. :thumbs:

If I'm not mistaken, Mike gave me a 2001 from the same haul. Unbelievable. Almost 10 years and it still had a hop presence.

It's crazy, the '98 has just barely a touch of oxidation, which actually works nicely with the other flavors. There is still some serious bitterness, but not much in the way of hop flavor. It's from the year I graduated high school, just called to me tonight when I was down in the cellar.

Yup. I got two week old bottles of Blind Pig and it took another week to get to him. Was just curious why he waited another 4 days before drinking one.

With PtE and Blind Pig, there is not that much of a difference between fresh (1-2 weeks old) to 4-6 weeks old. But with Sculpin, around 3-4 week old mark, the hop profile is definitely different. Good thing that Ballast Point is suppose to get around to putting bottle dating since it was always a gamble.

Crazy I still have 1993, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009...
Maybe I should do a tasting this weekend :whistling: :whistling:

Worked from home yesterday ... enjoyed a PB&J sandwich with Founders Breakfast Stout ... YUMMY!
 
I just bought a bottle of Brooklyn Black Ops. It's nothing like the game though. This one by Brooklyn goes down much smoother :thumbs:
 
Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA - very hoppy but still a good balance of flavors.
 
So much Dogfish last night at a tasting dinner.

Shelter Pale - their first beer. They said they don't brew it anymore, and they did this batch old school style in a pot over a burner for the dinner
Chateau Jiahu - based on a 9000 year old recipe. Little too sweet for me, but the others at the table loved it.
Pangaea - brewed with ingredients from all 7 continents. I loved this.
Chicory Stout - completely different animal from the tap. This was for dessert, paired with some cookies.

And the whole reason I went to the dinner:
