A bill had been working it's way through Colorado's legislature that would remove the "cigar bar" exemption from our indoor smoking ban. It was killed in the Senate today! Chalk one up for the good guys.

Good for you guys! I don't think ( I hope not anyway ) that something like this will happen in North Carolina as it's one of out biggest state exports.

Hey! Thanks for the good news..........................Seems like you only hear about the bad anymore.

I don't get why they would want to take out the cigar bar exemption...i mean, a non smoker will not go there to start out with, and if anything, it is a contained area. Smoking nazi's need a swift kick IMHO, enough is enough. Glad to see one small victory.

They want to do it because smoking is bad for you, so it's their duty to force you to stop. What's that signature someone here has about the tyrant who thinks he's helping the populace? Next they'll be banning fried food as a danger to the public heath, and instead of squawking about health care reform they'll want national "gym membership reform" and it'll be a crime if you don't work out twice a week or some such.

But back on topic: great news, it's good to know that in some places there are still enough people with common sense to stop the smoking nazis.

Edit: spelling is hard

They felt that too many regular bars were becoming "cigar bars" to get around the law. They need to have 5% of their revenues be tobacco based to qualify.

And, as to why, they are protecting the employees who "have" to work in the smoke. Because of course, when they took a job at Joe's Smoke Shack they had no idea people would be smoking there....

Illinois anti-smoking bill is on the governor's desk today.......

Now you see what i was getting at....protecting the employees ...i mean, how many bar employees smoke butts?
the legislators here pulled that same crap when they passed the anti smoking bill, running ads on tv showing a waitress getting smoke blown in her face and so on. Smoke shops are still exempt from this law in RI, thank goodness.
Once again, i am glad to see the bill was defeated.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences. -CS Lewis
