Hello! I've yet to introduce myself yet,
but basically I'm a newbie in terms of smoking and storing cigars but knowledgeable on the brands, leaf types etc. all that jaz.
My first humidor (only small and basic) arrived yesterday, and I've been getting it setup currently, I've wiped the insides with distilled water
and I've left a small cup of distilled water inside of it to let the spanish cedar get humidified however,
I've just noticed one of my two bolivar gigante tubo's is really very hard - it's hard around the band but there's some " give, " further down
in the cigar...

Do I calibrate the gauge tonight and put my cigars in the humidor a day early? or do I let the cedar humidify untll tuesday (which was planned, 2-3 three days for it too humidfy)

Put your cigars in a tupperware container with a humidity pack or some gel/beads. Don't just leave them out on the counter or wherever they are.

Can I just put them in the humidor? even though it's not ready yet? or do I go it a day early?

Sure you can, and relax, as long as you haven't left them out for a week or two and they were in good shape to begin with, you won't have anything to worry about.

Now head on over and say hello in the introduction forum and fill out your profile so we can get to know you better. Welcome to CP!

Really I can put them in there? I put the gauge in just out of interest and it's saying about 76 ish, but the humidor isn't done humidifying the wood yet?

Is this a risk? and yeah they were in good shape but one of them is ROCK hard now under the band haha

If its reading 76% (and your gauge is correct) then take out the cup of water and put in your cigars. wait a day or two and check it again.

BTW the gauge is supposed to stay in the humidor 24/7... not be taken out and put back in all the time.

*edit* And since you wiped the wood with water (a big no-no according to most everyone) the wood is already set, I doubt the cup of water is doing anything at all to be honest.

I just took the cup of water out, I just noticed there's a watery stain where the cup was so I'll wipe it - The gauge says 80% but I need to set my gauge so I'll do that now,

Relax.....it will all be ok.

salt test the Hydro, 18 hours but 24 is best, then when you have the hydro set, put in the humidor, and give it at least 6-12 hours to read.

while all this is going on, I would throw my sticks in a tuppy, I am sure there is enough humidity in them to hold for a day or so, and smoke the Tubo that you are worried about.
