Update on Coop and his family situation

Coop recently sent me a PM regarding his wife's situation. As many of you know, we generally don't allow members to post charitable requests, unless of course it directly affects one of our own members. Please see the PM Coop sent me below. If you can help in any way, I'm sure he and his wife would be very grateful. Best of luck to Coop and his wife...

 Hey Rod,
When my wife originally came down with breast cancer you sent me a note mentioning to ask help if I needed it. Well, that was back then, when it seemed like she'd back in November. Then it was Christmas. Then Valentines Day. Then March, Then April. Then May. Now October.

Things have gone pretty south, and since my wife's income was our sole income since I'm still in grad school, I've exhausted our savings and student loans (not on cigars, mind you, I stopped buying a long time ago), and now my friend started an online fundraiser for us. I'm going to have to go over to Korea in May until October, my parents and friends are pitching in a bit to help us pay the mortgage. Anyways, I was wondering if you'd post the link for me? If it's inappropriate, please disregard everything written.

Thanks for your help. Love checking in with the site 2 or 3 times a day.

Coop, glad I could help out, best wishes to you and your wife.

Thanks for posting this, Rod.  We still keep you guys in our thoughts, Coop.  You'll get through this and it will make you guys stronger.  Wishing you the best for the future.

Stay strong brother, we're looking forward to celebrating some good news with you soon.

Just a note to thank you guys for your generosity. I woke up and saw that several of you had already donated as the paypal notifications were already on my phone. My wife and I can't fathom the generosity poured upon us, but all we can say is, "Thank you, and we hope to pay the favor forward someday."

No thanks necessary Coop, we're all glad to help out a brother in need.

Charity starts at home...and our second home is CP!

Good morning gentlemen.

Yesterday a series of events unfolded which caused a great deal of misunderstanding between Rod, Jim Fretz, and I. The matter has been clarified since with the help of my local B&M manager, BrownDevil, who came out of "CP hibernation".

A few weeks ago, I received money from my family and a friend to treat myself for some cigars as they knew I hadn't been spending any money on myself and have been eating burritos two out of three meals a day. Everyone who knows me, knows that cigars are my vice of choice, a unique hobby that I enjoy whether it be sitting on the back porch studying or taking a walk through the park. The total amount given to me was $300 which went into a "cigar fund" envelope.

When I found out that I was going to have to go to Korea for six months, I knew that I would be using this fund to purchase some cigars to take there, since the cost of cigars is triple. (I saw an Undercrown Toro for $40, a Siglo VI for $70).

On April 4th, I wrote the PM in this thread to Rod, however he didn't respond to immediately.

On April 8th Jim Fretz (Keystone_Raider) posted his "Padron - taking orders!". I asked Jim when they were going to arrive because I wanted to make sure I would be able to take them to Korea since the last time I ordered from him I had to leave for Korea abruptly and since the cigars weren't going to show up in time and I ended up having someone else take the purchase with me paying the shipping. Jim replied that they would arrive mid-next week. Figuring that this would be my last chance to get some through Jim before I go, I put in my order for two boxes of Padrons, a box of churchills and a box of 4000's with the funds appropriated to the "cigar fund". The total cost is $270+$12 shipping.

On the morning of April 10th Rod put up this thread with my said PM.

Later that evening, Rod PM'd me saying that he'd been informed that I had recently placed the order for two boxes of Padrons and wanted an explanation. After a few PM's I explained all that has been stated in this post. BrownDevil stepped in to confirm my explanation, and that he sees me at my local B&M almost every day, and that I haven't been purchasing from the shop but rather smoking what's left in my humidor (much to his dismay.)

Currently, the biggest expenses that will be taken care of with the donated funds is the mortgage and the utilities. Three purchased plane tickets totaling approximately $4,000 are another major expense that has come out of this process and maxed out my credit card (my wife to Korea, I to Korea, I to Korea again).

I post this explanation and apologize if I have misrepresented myself or if any of you feel that I have misled you. This was never my intention, and I offered to Rod to write this post for 100% transparency's sake. Many of you have made ridiculously generous contributions for which I am extremely grateful for. If any of you who have contributed would like me to refund the money sent, I will immediately do so. Meanwhile, if any of you would like further information as to the expenses incurred already or the upcoming expenses, feel free to PM me about it.

I hope this explanation explains the entire situation in totality. Thanks for your time.

Edit: Grammatical error.

Thanks for the update coops.

I did see you comment on some cigar sales of late - or some such thing - that lead me to believe you were buying some still.

With that said...when going thru a trying time, we all still have to have a little enjoyment otherwise why bother.

I wish you and yours well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit to add - thank you Rod, Jim and BD for keeping things 'right'!

I for one have no issue with Coop buying cigars...even if it WAS partially funded by my donation, which we now know wasn't. During such a tough time, if Coop could steal away a few minutes while in Korea to smoke a cigar to ease the tensions that are so evident in their arduous journey, I think that would be a good thing. Being that this was conducted on a cigar forum, again, I'm glad to contribute to the over all picture...even if that included the purchasing of cigars by a BOTL we've adopted as one of our own. JMHO.

I also understand why Rod sent the PM as it doesn't look good on the face of this plea for help.

Thanks for clearing this up Cooper.

Godspeed...

That sums up nicely what I've been trying to write.

Hi folks,
First of all I'd like to everyone who made a contribution. Your generosity is extremely humbling and I hope to pay the favor forward.

There are many of you who made a contribution but didn't leave a note in this thread or didn't send me an email. I just receive notifications via paypal, but I only know most of you by your handles, not by your emails. If you could send me a PM identifying yourself, with your email, I'd appreciate it so that you can get first crack at a substantial sale coming up. Thanks.
