Top Smokes of 2007

Brian and Mike: Which of the CM5's have you tried? I had the secretos and LOVED it, and had the genios and was entirely underwhelmed. I think the small RG really makes a difference in that stick.

I had the exact opposite view when they first came out Phil. I thought the Secretos was merely blah, and the Genios was excellent. However, the last two Secretos I had were freakin' awesome, more so than the Genios. I think once the cigar has time to marry all the different components together (who knows when!), all the line will be phenomenal.
I love all three vitola's and they get better with each one I smoke. However, I must agree that the Secretos is a little flavor bomb. In fact, come to think of it, the last few times I looked for a 30 minute stick, I reached out for the Secretos! Perhaps you are right Mike, the reason is because the smaller vitola is marrying faster.

The Padron 80th is a terrific cigar.....but for its price it should be. I still like the Principe in the regular Anniversario line best of all of them.

Other new cigars this year ( in no particular order) are of course the San Cristobal by Ahston/Pepin. They have a greaat chocolatey flavor...reminiscent of the Cohiba Esplendido when it is on.

The La Aurora Barrel Aged are great but alas they will not be out til Feb/March though they were introduced at RTDA.

The Joya de Nicaragua Serie C...an Ecuadoran Connecticut version of the Antano...much lighter but still a great stick.

The Liga Privada #9 by Steve Saka and Drew Estate. This baby has full flavor and great construction. Available at the select licensed LP dealers....I think bout 50 in the US. (Fortunately we have one here and I already bought a box.

I love the Cohiba Maduro's, particularly the smallest one. Next would be LFD Lancero Oscuro, my regular smoke. From there, it would be a toss up between the Padron 80th and the Don Pepin White, Black and Blue (were those released this year?), I like them all.

I really like the San Cristobals and La Aurora Crojo. I havent seen too many La Aurora Crojo but my B&M had them in some sort of sampler box w/ a Corrilo and two others... I think that is what they are called

BGM for me. The other outstanding young smoke was an 07 Sir Winnie.

cm5 Secreto have tried the others did not care for them and san cristobol ashton/dpg

I'd have to say my three favorites from the year are the Don Carlos God of Fire, 26' series Padrons, and the Ashton ESG Robustos. I haven't had an 80th yet, but I should run across one sooner or later. ;)

I have to agree, the BGM are really good for a young smoke, I was surprised. The CM5's are a great innovation, about time too... I love them!

Padron 80th...mmmm, don't want to burst anyone's bubble and of course, I have only had one, the next will tell ME the story.
This stick is more hype than class IMO. It's different for sure, there are subtle tastes I don't find in the 1926 line but a great
smoke...I don't think so.

Brian
I'm an admitted Padron whore and I was disappointed in the 80th also. Granted it was a beautifully constructed cigar, drew well, and burned evenly, but I guess I was looking for a '26 on steriods....which it was not. Maybe some down time will help, but like Brian, I've only smoked 1 also.

Just like a movie, or anything else that has so much hype. You build yourself up so much for this overwhelming experience, that you often get let down. Now I wonder if you would have been pleasantly suprised with the 80th if you had not heard anything about it?

I forgot to add the remarkable low-cost Olivia V series. I have heard some reports of poor construction resulting in tight draws, but you can't beat the flavor for the value.

Stinki

Oliva O perfecto... never even had heard of this brand and now I have the O, S and Gs in my humidor.

Illusione 68... one of the best small smokes I've had the pleasure of turning into ash.

Edit to add: Cuban Releases would definitely have to be the Cohiba Maduro 5 release.

I had the secretos and LOVED it,

My favorite was the Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos also. It's the best after dinner smoke I've ever had (that you can get your hands on regularly). I would like to get a box to hold onto for a couple of years, just to see what time will do to these beauties.

This year I haven't really been up on alot of the new stuff, but the San Cristobals are excellent, and I've been really enjoying the Gran Habano 3 Siglos.
