Today's Smoke

Tonight I had two firsts (for me). I enjoyed a Cuaba tradicional and a small glass of Woodsford Reserve. Both firsts. First the cigar. I found the cigar extremely "interesting". A beautiful pull and a very "smooth" smoke. Smooth is what comes to mind becuase there's no initial harshness or warming up period. I enjoyed this cigar from the very first puff. A lot of earthy flavor but nothing adnormally different. I would say the only disappointment was that it did taste a bit young for lack of better word. However, it was extremely mild and I'm not sure more humi time would have fixed that. It may just be the tone of this cigar. That said I thought it was a decent smoke maybe a 6.5 out of 10. It finished a bit hot and spicey but still an enjoyable every day smoke.

On to the drink. I am completely green when it comes to bourbon. As a life long vodka drinker I am still trying to figure out if the brown stuff is for me. During election week I had the opportunity to travel to Louisville and of course had to try Makers Mark. Not only did I try I had dinner at the Makers Mark restaurant. I completely enjoyed the experience of the drink and dinner. Suprising to me many of the locals said "Well Kenyatta, Makers Mark is alright actually its pretty good BUT you have to try Woodsford Reserve". During my three days in Louisville I heard this time and time again from the great people there. So as soon as I got home I got me a bottle. I was not disappointed at all.

I took a big whiff of it before taking a sip and there were way more complex scents and flavors than my green pallete could discern. Upon tasting however the caramel flavors jumped out of me and it was an amazing experience. I am still deciding on bourbon but if they are all like this (and better) its a trip I am willing to take.

It's a sin not to smoke a good cigar before the winter comes in.

I had a Partagas Churchills de Luxe from '00 this evening.

The construction is not up to my expectation I have to say, but the Partagas characteristic flavor is still there.
No a great, but still a good smoke after all.

Oh thats too bad. I also love Patagonia, especially their Capilene baselayers.

The owner of my local B&M gifted me this stick from Graycliff that they received at the 2008 IPCPR Trade Show. I believe they are calling it the ambassador or something like that. As for me, I am calling it "Damn I wish I knew what it was and that I could afford it".

This stick, a maduro roughly measuring 5x54, at the foot, smelled of deep rich chocolate with a tinge of coffee. I was smitten from the start so I opted to only have a bottle of water with it. I punched this as I did not want to risk ruining the experience by clipping it. The pre-light draw was firm and tasted exactly like it smelled.

From the very first draw I knew this baby had me in a trance. The flavors were of nuts and chocolate and they continued to build until about the halfway point when the stick almost turned me into an adulterer!!! The flavor was mixed with some anise and milk chocolate and then the smoke became even more dense.

I smoked beyond the nub (as if that were possible) and it's smoke coated my palette for at least an hour after I put it out.

If you can get your hands on this one, I highly recommend you do it. In fact, if you get two...

This afternoon I had a Macanudo 1968. It was a good solid cigar nothing spectacular. It was mild with a nice pull. It was consistent.

This afternoon had a 5 Vegas Series "A". Not a bad one, but not sophisticated enough.
It has the maduro flavor, but sometimes just too harsh and not complex at all.

In the evening, had a Le Hoyo Des Dieux '00. It had a lot of smoke. I think it is medium body,
but a flavor bomb. At first, it has a very pronouce dark coca and strong coffee flavor, very similar to real dark chocolate with just a little bitter taste. But then the bitter taste faded away and all other flavors come in (I cannot describe them, maybe sweet, fruity and woody?). It is very complex and IMHO it has a very
different taste profile than Hoyo DC.

Finally got the chance to light up after a month or so (who's counting).

Me and the beagles took a walk tonight. The beagles were searching for cats (and other vermin).

I was enjoying an older Monte #2.

Delicious.

California is burning.

hey gents (and possibly ladies?)

been out of the country for a while (asia) and smoked some fantastic puros while abroad. you haven't had a cuban cigar until you've tried the partagas serie d no. 4. i was so blown away by how many amazing humidors i came across all over tokyo and seoul.

that and some macallan 18 or a bit of martell vsop pair phenomenally well. i think i'll be having a partagas right about now...

cheers.

I know it's bad, but I just can't wait and sampled a Punch RS12 '00 without letting it to settle down.

Wilkey was right. RS12 has a richer flavor and more strength than RS11. Besides there is a soft spot near the cap, I can't ask for more from it. It will be one of my favourite PC.
