Today's Smoke 2024

What a day at the race track!

Secret Handshake DC…poor combustion, swapped it out for a Johnny O WF Corona “Shorts” that was a year old, great flavor, still young and spicy. Lovely overall.

And then to finish out the day, my boy from up north brought his BMW over to race prep and I shared a Smoking Jacket.

Long but great day!

Cracked open the monster smash for tonight's smoke, the Frank.

Honestly I just found it to be ok. Draw was acceptable but a bit stiff, flavor started out promising with some pepper and warm spice, but then settled into a general tobacco flavor with no transitions at all and just kind of dragged on throughout the smoke, until the last inch or so when it finally picked up with some more spice and leathery notes. It tasted to me like it needs more time. I will say that the construction and burn on mine were excellent. Dry boxed it for about 36 hours, and total smoke time was about 1:15 or thereabouts.

After the smoke I looked back at what some others have said about it and I'm tempted to just put the whole box back in the coolerdor to rest over the winter.

‘03 from singles drawer. Only a couple more left from the box. When the smoke is buttery smooth taste perfection first puff to last you know you’ve got something truly grand. I very rarely break out the nubber but sometimes you gotta. Twenty year old PSD4 are rough to beat. Absolute perfection.

‘06 Bolivar Colosales - I believe this was the first ever Boli ER. Back in those days I had to have at least a fiver of every damn ER that came out if possible. This was an exceptional smoke fresh. Still so but not improved at all. Very disappointing and very rare in my experience. I’m not a fan of fresh Boli’s. Too in your face one dimensional. Aged Boli’s are another thing altogether. Some of the best cigars I’ve ever had the pleasure have been old Bolivars. I’ll have to chase this one with one of my all time favorites - a ‘97 Boli CG cabinet selection.
