Today's Smoke 2024

My usual San Cristobal & a War Witch while watching Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull . . . again. 😂

Honestly, I don't know why this installment in the franchise gets such a bad rap. It's Temple of Doom that's the terrible one!

Aliens. 👽 The others were rooted in religion and magic. Crystal Skull felt like a betrayal of that brand of fantasy for sci-fi that was never pre-indicated nor welcome. There are many movies that mix the two (Star Wars jumps to mind) and are great, tons of pure sci-fi that is great, but by movie 4, the audience felt like they knew what they had signed up for, and aliens wasn’t it. It would be like watching Aliens 7, and Ripley revealing that she was a wizard this whole time.

Hmmmmm. 🤔

I guess I can see that. To me, as someone who came of age during the whole Von Daniken In Search of Ancient Astronauts era, it seemed like a perfectly logical place for the franchise to go. Those kinds of theories have been rattling around in archaeological circles for over half a century now!

After all, they'd already done the OT with the Ark & the NT with the Grail .... what was left without bringing Tom Hanks in on it for a Da Vinci Code crossover? Or Nick Cage for some Knights Templar action? 😂
