Now this is only one small part of revenue that is going to be lost because of the ban here in Pa. I don't know what is happening in other states that have had a ban in effect for a while but i can see this really hurting small "mom and pop" restuarants and bars that sell more than 20% in food revenue. What are your thoughts on this.

Oops, forgot the link.

So far I've noticed a big increase in people standing and smoking outside bars and restaurants. Also noticed more cigarette butts on the pavement around the businesses.

This has slowed down the pace in our bowling league. Smoking is allowed only in the enclosed bar section. Teams are always waiting for bowlers to get back to their lanes while they're having a cigarette in the bar. Needless to say, my nights of enjoying a cigar while at league are now gone. :(

Hey there is almost no where in Chicago or Illinois where you can still smoke, only grandfathered in B&M's to my knowledge, but no casinos, restaraunts, bars, etc. No where, not within 15 feet of an entryway, etc. it's ridiculous. Like I said only in B&M's that were around before the law changed, now even a new B&M would have to be in a free standing structure in Chicago in order to get any type of permit to let people smoke, even then the hoops would be insane!

Normally, I would say something like: The only place left you can comfortably light up nowadays is your own home/backyard... but what if you live in an apartment that does not allow smoking? What if you have no backyard and a small house you want to keep smoke free?

I do hope people will start raising their voices a little louder about this issue, so we can get some reversion to sanity. Join a libertarian/free-choice society (like fOrest: Freedom Organisation for the Right to Enjoy Smoking Tobacco) and get behind people that are really trying hard to get us a fair go.

No point whining about it on the internet, that changes nothing.

True, here's my fear though, with the tax on Tobacco already around 33% in Chicago, and with the bailout stuff, are we going to end up with a higher tax soon? They seem to enjoy increasing tobacco tax to pay for everything.

It's' all politics, i smoke and drink in Illinois at a bar that's cigar friendly, i can't say where, but the guy has pull with the P.D. The time for the nanny state to disappear is now upon us. IMHO!

Lucky SOB, I don't drink anymore, but I would love to be able to hang out at a bar that you can smoke in!

Chicago PD looking the other way? When did this start happening? :whistling:

It sounds as though many of the riverboat casinos on the Ill. side of the Mississippi River are losing business to riverboats on the Iowa side because we allow smoking in casinos (for now). It's just a matter of time before the loss of revenue to the state overturns this IMO.

I don't know they make up for alot of the revenue in taxes, a total of 33% in taxes, and people are not quitting, they are just paying the higher prices, when I buy a box for about $100 at my local B&M I end up paying just about $135, not to mention the cigarette sales that are going on. I think that's why they increased the tax so much, they knew they were going to lose money, so they decided to make up for it by double penalizing smokers, now this wouldn't make up for all the money they lose in casino revenue, but it does make up for a considerable amount, just MHO
