We are at OBX, NC...just beautiful.

We were watching these guys kite surf last night, amazing and it doesn't look that hard.

Where at OBX?

I will be here next month.
It is one of the quietest and least crowded stretches of beach on the east coast.
We go every year.

Very nice.

We usually rent a house or condo around 18 to 21 mile post.
It's really nice down there.

DO IT BRIAN!! KITE-SURF!

Happy Papa's Day btw sir... Good to see you enjoying yourself! :D

Damn. Just got back from Corolla yesterday. The smoke was pretty bad when we were leaving (from the fire in the Great Dismal Swamp) Hope it cleared out a little for ya. We're heading back down August 9. Went 4 wheelin' with the wild horses in Corova... that was cool.

Damn Neal, I just got back from Sanderling (Duck) yesterday! Wish I would have known you were out there. Yeah the smoke was pretty bad... Did you get to check out the smoke shop in Timbuk II LOL!

Brian, sorry for the jack and yes I have kite surfed in the Sound, right behind Miller's in Kitty Hawk. I swear my arms were about an inch longer when I was done, but it was quite fun after getting the hang of it.

OBX= Outer Banks, N.C. Went down there myself a few years ago, was one of the most relaxing vacations I ever had. We stayed in in Salvo, mile pole 50 or so, pretty far from the tourist stuff up near Kill Devil. Saw some people kit surfing there, looked like a lot of fun.

Would love to try that one day. Watched a few guys do it at Mission Bay last time we were in San Diego.

I kite surf on occasion here on South Beach, particularly when the winds pick up. It's a lot of fun and, given there's usually no surf like I had back in Santa Cruz, serves to partially quench that surfing thirst.

As for its ease - it might be a little more difficult than it appears but, honestly, I found windsurfing to be more arduous of a task. Bottom line though is you should try it - it's tremendous fun.

Rodanthe...our Motor Coach is 50 yds from the beach.

NO kidding! My old girlfriend's sister has a place in Rodanthe, right on the beach! We stayed there back in '03.

The Island is nice but they restaurants and bars only serve beer and whine. :(

We saw some folks doing this in Mexico in March. They were loving life because of some higher than usual winds. I was boating past them but CERTAINLY would have joined the fun if I had been at their base. Just do it.

Kite surfing is dangerous. Sure it is not that difficult. The problem here in Malibu is when the kite surfers, surfers, and wind surfers collide.
The kites need a 30 foot radius to function. When they are in the same area as other water sports. Watch out!
The life guards became so tired of telling the kiters to stay in their designated area they finally kicked them out.
There is not much love between the wind surfers and kiters.

I tryed it once in OC Maryland. It takes a lot of upper body strength. After you get going and hit a decent wave hang on!!! I was up about 20-25 feet at one point. I definitly recomend it!!

The smoke got really bad in Rodanthe so we packed up and headed for Virginia Beach. Pity, we wanted to stay in the OBX at least another week. Unfortunately, the damn smoke followed us into VB with the wind coming out of the West. It was bad for about 1 1/2 days, almost forced us away again but and then thankfully it moved off with a change back to an easterly wind.

Yep Wyatt, life is tough
