This has got to stop.

Well done, by both you and Newman/Fuente.

Incidentally, the boxes of VSG I picked up recently were all in perfect, pristine, beautiful, mmmmm vsgsssssss, condition. Guess it is indeed limited to those Fuentes exclusively, as others have observed.

Wanted to add some pics...finally got around to it:

Nice play, Mr Twain!

Just to add to this....

While performing 'humidor tetris', I found a 'Sand Shark' with mold on it...in a few areas.
The other smokes in the bag were not harmed, nor was any mold found (to date) on any other cigars.
However, it will be a heck to pay for the Shark!

:D

If you need help cycling through those sharks, the fish is always available! :D

Doing my bi-weekly run through the coolers....got to the box of Sharks I bought over Christmas and found four of them with slight mold on the foot....

The mold was very slight, and scraped off easily. Every stick got removed from the cello and examined under a very bright light. Every other one looked perfect, so they went back in the cello and back in the box. They sure didn't feel "wet"...much better than they were new. I always put them back in the box one less per layer than the factory packs them for better ventilation. I thought I'd prevented this from happening but I guess not. The ones that had mold got the cello and ribbon taken off. Some went into my smoking humi (~60%) and two went back into the box with the others, in a 65% cooler. I did prop the lid of the shark box open for better ventilation.

....dammit..!! Well, the good news is that I just smoked one and it was fine as could be. Feel like I dodged a bullet, this time.

Regards - B.B.S.

This thread scared me a bit as I've got a good collection of Anejos that I haven't checked on for a while. However, I just ran over to my humi and fortunately, no mold! :)

Just checked the Sand Sharks I have and found several with slight mold on the wrapper and foot. Removed the cello, wiped them down and leaving them out to dry a bit before returning to the humi. I had some trouble with quite a few Anejos last year. BBS is spot on with his suggestion to remove that darned humi pack and get some ventilation into the box. My new humi is set at 65%/64F.

I would at least put them in a new sealed plastic bag - before - I put them in the humi!

Actually, I wouldn't put them back at all.

I'd put them in their own humi/bag and smoke them - soon.

That's just me.

I looked a box of 46's and 55's tonight, and they had some mold (white) on maybe 1/2 of them. Took them all out the cello and cedar, wiped them down, took that white spiderweb wrapping out and back in they went. No mold on Sharks or the other Anejo boxes i have, nor any mold on any of the woams, hemi maddys, or other Fuente products i have. Like Moki said, seems like the Anejo wrapper is mold haven. I just checked these a couple months ago, mold free, and these have been at 62-65%rh, so i you haven't checked in awhile, you oughta...

I posted this a few weeks ago on the CF board. The sharks that I purchased around the holidays just started to turn moldy. I smoked them anyway!

ditto checked mine a few weeks ago, MOLDY, they were the only ones I left the cello on.

Dammit me too! :( A 46 I smoked today because reading this thread again made me want one. See ya cello and cedar on the rest.

ARGH!!!

Checked my sharks when this thread was posted and they were fine. Figured the rest were as well. Pulled out a pair of #46s for me and a buddy last night and one had mold on it. Sadly I was unable to get a picture before I sacrificed it to the fire gods.

Checking the rest of my Anejos now.

edit: luckily only one more slightly moldy stick, nowhere near as bad as the stick last night. Cedar was removed, mold wiped and cigar isolated with a plastic baggie.

With this thread resurfacing, i decided to remove the cedar from all my anejos, and only had minimal mold on a few sticks. I will be watching them closely now.

I removed all the cedar when this first surfaced and thought I had it whipped, but I inspected them last week and the only shark I had left had a touch of mold on the foot, so I sacraficed it immediately. Fortunately, the shark was the only one with mold.

I recently picked up a Shark from this year's Toast Across America batch. While in the coolidor today, I noticed a small amount of mold on the wrapper, and at the foot. I have been looking forward to picking some up over the holidays. What preventative steps should be taken? My coolidor is solid at 65-65.

That really sucks. I was hoping this was a late 2006 problem, not an ongoing issue. If this keeps up, I forsee these getting easier to find. I surely won't be willing to put out the price both monetarily and relationship wise for cigars that waste away instead of aging gracefully.

Grrrrrrrr ....... I went through the coolidor yesterday and found mold on many of the Anejos from 2006, there's no a problem with "any" of the other cigars in the same storage. I hate to say this but if Fuente doesn't address this issue soon, and with so many other great producers out there lately, I may choose to finally take my business elsewhere.

I love many of the Fuente products but if this continues, and it isn't addressed and corrected by Fuente, I will start to only purchase enough of their products for an occasional smoke. Which is very different than the way I currently purchase many of the Fuente products. I hate to think that they just don't care, that they feel they are so popular that a few complaints on a cigar board aren't worth the trouble. I've seen this same attitude before and it troubles me, perhaps they'll only listen when more of us are changing our buying habits.
