The Musical Cheese Pass

Pair 2 looks good. Pair 4, I haven't looked up.

Pair 1 is short. Pair 3 is far short. I think these two might need a reconsideration.

Wilkey

I agree with 1 being short.
Respectfully a question for my education as well - I have the AVO 80th @ $15 & the Padron 26 at 16 to 19. What have I missed? :)

Doh!

I saw Padron on the P and mentally attached it to the T as in "Padron 80th." My mistake. Sorry 'bout dat. The pair looks good.

Carry on. :)

That's what I suspected, but I didn't want to be an impudent little school boy, so I asked. ;)

Wilkey

Pair 3 looks fair to me??? Avo 80th = $13.5 (per cigarcyclopedia) and the Padron 1926 #2 he is putting in goes for $15.95? I will not comment on #1 since I have never purchased ISOM's, and have next to no knowledge on them.B

Edit:I was sorting through other stuff and chatting so it took me forever to look it all up, By the time I did ya'll already saw it, lol. Now back to the regularly scheduled program.

Ok,

I used a very trusted source for my pricing on the BGM they list at $12.93 with the Partagas Serie P No. 2 at $12.63.

I thought they were a pretty fair pricing site, but this must not be the case.

Not an issue.

Take number 1 completely out of the equation. Here's the updated Ps/Ts:

T1: #8 Ashton ESG 21 Year Salute Robusto
P1: #94 Ashton ESG 20 Year Salute Churchill

T2: #9 Avo 80th
P2: #95 Padron Serie '26 No. 2 Maduro

T3: #87 Illusione 888
P3: #96 Tatuaje Reserva J21

P4: #97 LFD Oscuro Double Ligero Lancero

Cheese: Pepper Jack w/ Habanero

Based on the previous comments I think this one should fly. I'll get this out to Seth today!

edited to annotate the Padron Serie '26 No. 2 as a Maduro

Wyatt,
I hope you don't mind if I take this opportunity to answer your concern. There is nothing wrong at all with the source you originally cited.

It is clear, though, that there is some variation across vendors. Also, when doing comparisons, you must choose the identical packaging if possible and if that is not possible, then the most mainstream packaging (typically 25 or 24-ct box) and then consider the average cost basis for comparison. Also, do not select special or sale pricing. Always use the in-stock, regular pricing. That would be most conservative.

Also, you must compare the pricing only within one given vendor. It is not advisable to compare the price of PSP2 from Source A to the BolivarGM of Source D. If you did, $13.90P for an $11.90T would seem more than fair. However, PSP2 from Source D and BGM from Source B would give you $10.50P for an $15.90T, a very bad pairing indeed.

In this case, the average differential is $2.29 or well out of the generally acceptable range.

All players might want to just check out BlueDragon's informative thread on Passing here.

Case in point: Source A.
PSP2 10-ct: $13.90
PSP2 25-ct: $11.76
Bolivar Gold Medal 10-ct: $15.60

Case in point: Source B.
PSP2 10-ct: $12.40
PSP2 25-ct: $9.84
Bolivar Gold Medal 10-ct: $15.90

Case in point: Source C.
PSP2 10-ct: $11.49
PSP2 25-ct: $11.49
Bolivar Gold Medal 10-ct: $12.93

Case in point: Source D.
PSP2 10-ct: $10.50
PSP2 25-ct: NIS
Bolivar Gold Medal 10-ct: $11.90

Case in point: Source E.
PSP2 10-ct: $12.00
PSP2 25-ct: $9.68
Bolivar Gold Medal 10-ct: $15.40

PSP2-10 average: $12.06
BoliGM average: $14.35

Now I want to make sure you guys know I'm not picking on Wyatt. However, I do want to get across the point that making Peez-n-Teez in a pass is something you want to be mindful of. Unless you're blowing out each pair, this is something that takes some finesse and a little experience. If anyone is ever unsure of whether or not they have good or sufficient sources to price a cigar, then they should feel free to contact the pass originator or an experienced member for feedback.

Nope, don't mind at all. I appreciate the detailed reply you gave me.

Really, it had zero to do with getting the smoke, I just wanted to see where I went wrong so that the same mistake doesn't happen again....and it won't.

I see where I went wrong. I was pricing a 10ct Box of BGMs, getting a single price of $12.93. Then using a single cigar price for the PSP 2 at $12.63.

Naturally the 10ct price drives the single stick price down and the single stick price drives it up. That's why I was thinking the two were close enough. Had I used the same quantity for each in pricing I would have seen the price difference.

Good stuff. Thanks for the info.

I learned from this. Thanks to Wilkey and Wyatt for the education.

Got back into town and the pass is here. I will look it over and post my P&Ts shortly.

No complaints from me. The only thing I'm curious about is the year of the BGM.
