We’ve discussed the proper use of “they’re”, “there” and “their”, as well as “your” and “you’re”. But I can’t recall anyone ever discussing the incorrect use of “are” in place of “or”. It’s not as common a mistake, to be sure, but it is similarly incorrect.

For example:

Yep, keep it up, pretty soon no one will want to trade with you are allow you in a pass you slacker.

Granted, it’s a tough post to follow without correct punctuation, but it seems clear that this poster meant to use “or”, but instead used “are”.

Another example:

Just as I suspected, with the way you act I'm sure you got your ass beat regularly and most likely you still do are certainlly deserve to. And no asswipe, that never happened to me.

Again, it’s a bit hard to follow but “or” fits into the sentence whereas “are” is certainly (not “certainlly”) wrong.

Sorry, this is just a pet peeve of mine. I don’t mean to be the grammar police, cuz I certainly (again, not “certainlly”) make enough errors of my own. I just felt that this one was worth pointing out.

I know the examples you listed and the poster too! You're going to need a cauldron pretty soon.

Wow...Almost embarrassing, imagine some new person coming into this forum and reading that. They would probably turn and laugh, all the way back to their old forum.

LMAO!!

Nice catch shawk, pretty bad on my part, no excuse for that kind of sloppiness. ;)

LMAO, this coming from a guy who writes like a genius. What do you say hale, should we review some of your posts for the audience assembled here? :sign: How are things at the can factory, they treating you well?

Where the hell is all of this stemming from? This shit needs to end. No baiting from EITHER side. I don't care if you've been here 6 years or 6 days. Knock it off.
