The idiot politicians are at it again...

Whats next, not being able to talk on your cell phone while you walk...geez

Connecticut and at least one other state have laws making it illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving.

Many states do, and I was happy as hell when they made it illegal in NY. Problem is, they enforce it even less than they do seatbelt laws (IOW, it's not usually the reason they pull people over, but they'll ticket if they've pulled you over for something else). I only know 2 people that have gotten tickets for cell phone use. There's still too many idiots trying to kill people instead of looking where they are going. It's not like using a hands-free headset is really a hard thing to do (wired or wireless). The difference is they are putting other people in danger, whereas someone who is too stupid to obey the law and crosses when they aren't supposed to is, for the most part, only putting themselves in danger.

Uh, I don't think so. "Many" states may be talking about it but I think there are only two or three states in the country with laws on the books at the present time, CT, NY and possibly New Jersey. I do know that no other state in New England has such a law in place at the present time and neither does Texas, California, Illinois, Florida or Nebraska and I'd venture to guess that is the case with pretty much every state west of the Mississippi River.

I'm personally kind of up in the air about it. While I don't think they should pass laws that restrict personal freedoms for no good reason, I see FAR TOO MANY asswipes driving like idiots and causing accidents while talking on their cell phones so I'm starting to think it's a good idea after all.

I think the anti-cell phone laws are a terrible idea. Asswipes will be asswipes whether there is a phone in their hands, an iPod, a compact, food, a magazine, a notepad, or even a cigar. Unless you are going to make all in car activity outside of having two hands on the wheel illegal, it is pointless. No singing while you have your hands on the wheel either, no radios at all even, lets get rid of standard transmissions as well. Living in Massachusetts I am sick of being punished for the incompetence and inconsideration of others. It is nothing short of a miracle we haven't enacted such a law in the people's republic.

4. Annex California and let it fend for itself. All residents who want to come back must either smoke, use old style lightbulbs or believe in spanking their kids.

HUH? ???

Last time I checked, we already had possession of California.

My bad. In my haste I Grossman'd that one, should have proofread a little better. It should read Disown instead of Annex.

I like the law about not being about to talk and drive. That's why bluetooth is the best thing since sliced bread. It's just safer.

It seems a little silly, but I'd hope someone was hurt to spark this up. It's a little dangerous not to have atleast one ear listening to your surrondings. I still don't have an Ipod. :sign:
it isn;t so much you have a cell phone in your hand...it's you're involved in a conversation and distracted, bluetooth or not. agreed it is safer, but a distraction is a distraction. i have a bluetooth connection in my gps, and i try to limit my conversations to 30 sec or less when driving.
back on topic...
either way, that legislation with the ipods is kinda silly, people need to control their own situational awareness. i think we need the government to concentrate on the bigger issues (that i need not mention).
Exactly right. In fact, I think there is research that shows that there is no difference between attention, accidents, and whether the person was using a handheld or speaker (car phone).

It is the fact that your attention is split between the act of driving and the cognitive processes involved in conversing that is the problem.

Wilkey

Disown California, NOW yer talkin'!!

I think we need a bill outlawing freedom and civil rights. Seems like communism is on the horizon these days. Dolphin safe tuna, no indoor smoking, good bye trans fat, and now iPods?

I think Americans will take this new decrease in our freedoms and civil rights to a place where we excel, capitalism! I am going start the trend.

AngryFish's Black Market Price List

If I can only figure out a way to help us smoke indoors...
