So over the last few months I have smoked a fare number of different cigars. As would be expected, I liked some, and not others. As a rule, I am not fond of the Maduro wrapper. So I have decided to start the Great wrapper Chase. I am going to start looking for the right wrapper for my taste. I know that the wrapper is just part of the total flavor, but I think this will help as work to find the smoke I like the best. I have tried Maduro, Corojo, Cameroon, and Connecticut shade, and a few others. I will be trying a AF Sungrown Cuban Beli in the next few days

I will not start searching out 5 or so examples of the various wrapper and try to see if I can pick the thing out that I like about them. Although I have not cared for many of the Maduro, I will still keep trying them as my taste grow and change.

So far my favorite wrappers are the Corojo and Cameroon.

Well off to "work" searching and smoking. Thanks for reading.

Look for some sticks with a dark Ecuador Sumatra. The Hoyo Dark Sumatra is one such stick, IIRC.

The RP 92s have that wrapper, too. Not bad, but not my fav. Worth trying, though. :) Good luck in your quest.

Thanks for the info. I am working on a list now, I will post it as soon as it is done, for your noob slappin pleasure.

Really? I didn't like that cigar. But then I don't like anything Rocky Patel. So at least for me that doesn't represent the best of what the EcSu wrapper has to offer.

At JRs, they also have La Escepcion in EcSu (have not tried this yet), JR Ultimate (have tried, liked), La Gloria Cubana (tried, liked), Exile (not tried), and there might well be others.

My favorite cigars are different every week. Good luck with that.

Give the La Gloria Reserva (Felicia or Flecha) a try, it has an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper as well. Another good smoke that comes with an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper is the La Aurora 1495 (robusto).

By the way, when you say "maduros", are you referring to Connecticut maduro wrappers?

Although the Cuban Belicoso is a decent stick, IMO, it is not the best benchmark for a sungrown wrapper. Padron X000 and DCM both deliver better flavors for me in this respect. Any plans on trying LFD's Oscuro Natural wrappers?

Would have to agree although I do enjoy these. The 858SG on the other hand... well, they're sheer smoking bliss.

Not sure, I will have to look into it and see. But it is a good point, thanks

The maduros were a Cusano 18 double, Ovation (did not care for either) Gurkha Fuerta, Maxx, and Anejo Reserva No.46 (these were all right), and a 5Vegas "A"(whatever....)

Umm I dunno, try a new Cigar, let me thin...OK

Is the Natural wrapper on a Padron x000 sungrown?

Is the Natural wrapper on a Padron x000 sungrown?

I'm pretty sure all Padron natural wrappers are sungrown. However, IMO, Padrons do not have a similar taste to any other cigar out there, and cannot be used as a basis of comparison.

you minght want to try the Brazilian mata fina wrappers that Dona FLor produces...dry on the finish, but nice taste, I personally like the alonzo menendez line from dona flor.

For sungrowns, I would recommend the VSG enchantment (you can get a great spectrum of binder/filler ratio and taste differences with that size) and the La Aurora Emerald...which I believe is an Ecuadorian SG wrapper.

for corojos I would look at the Camacho corojo line, especially the diploma and the 11/18.

On cameroons my favorites are the LFD cameroon cabnets and the CAO CX2....the fuente hemingway naturals also have a great cameroon flavor.

I am not a fan of the criollo wrapper unless it is an AB Crollo 98, so maybe others would weigh in on those.

For good oscuro naturals the LFD especiales is great, and the El Rey Del Mundo robusto, rebusto larga, and robusto suprema are great.

When evaluatin wrappers, you also have to think of the country of origin of the wrapper as well as the binder and filler, all will effect the taste (a nicaraguan tastes different than a dominican) so finding the wrapper you like from a countries whose tobacco you enjoy is a fun challenge.

Good luck Tim!

Is the Natural wrapper on a Padron x000 sungrown?

I'm pretty sure all Padron natural wrappers are sungrown. However, IMO, Padrons do not have a similar taste to any other cigar out there, and cannot be used as a basis of comparison.

Absolutely right, they should not be used as a basis of comparison, but rather as a reference to how great a sungrown wrapped cigar can taste. I'm believe the maduros are sun-grown as well.

Founded in 1964 and evolving throughout our history, the Padrón™ line today consists of thirteen medium to full-bodied long filler cigars ranging from Panetelas to the large “A” size Magnum. All tobacco in this line is sun-grown habano that is aged for a minimum of two and one-half years. Every cigar in this line is available in natural and maduro wrapper. This line offers exceptional quality and value.

Again guys, you are a wealth of information, advice, and help. Still working on my wrapper/cigar list, hope to have some of it posted in a day or 2, for your viewing pleasure/ and or "OMG, he wants to smoke what" comments and general buggery.

Alright? ALRIGHT?! Are you fuggin' kidding me? In reference to cigars the words "Anejo" and "alright" do not belong anywhere near one another. Blasphemy, I say!

Prepare to kiss the gunner's daughter! Crew, take him below for the makings!

:D :D :D :D ;)

Seriously, good luck. After 2 1/2 years I've pretty much found out what my likes/dislikes are. It takes time, and I'm still finding surprises. It's all part of the journey, and it's an absolute blast! :)

I knew this was going to happen, let it be kown that the troops are on high alert, and the 155's are ready for counter battery. The Anejo was one of my fav maddies, there is just something in the aftertaste that I am not fully enjoying when it comes to that wrapper, I guess I just need a "mild" maduro...

Anyway, it sure is great to be searching.......
