Let's try one more time, and hopefully I can get this package on the road tomorrow. I PMd Clint to confirm his addy.

T: WOAM P: AF Anejo 46
T: Anejo 50 P: MF Lancero

I'm fine with leaving the Fuente Fuente, but for the record...
From an interview with CA: "The cigar comes in four sizes and retails for around $10 per cigar. It will be on the market in early September and will become a regular production brand. Only about 50,000 were made. “Next year we’ll make more as we process more leaves,” said Garcia’s son, Jaime." whereas the regular production Opus, like the Perf 2, had more than 40k cigars released in 2007, according to CA.

From what I know, Fuente has about 30 people rolling Opus all year long. Pepin has 12 people in his entire factory, rolling every cigar he makes MF, DPG blue, black, white, Tat, San Cristobal. "The factory currently employs 12 rollers, all Class 8 (Master), and they can turn out about 800,000 cigars per year." According to Vitolas, " Approximately 750,000 Opus X cigars are released on an annual basis."

So, 750,000 Opus each year vs 50,000 of the first production run of My Fathers.

Thanks for letting me play, Jeff, killer line-up and very well put together pass.

I just Googled My Father cigars and got five sites selling them just on the first couple pages (maybe more, I quit after five). They are very much available all over, so IMHO are not a rare/HTF cigar. Now, Google an Opus or Anejo. They're nowhere to be found unless you want to pay quadruple duple MSRP. MAYBE you can find some at a vendor if you call (and get lucky), or at a local B&M. But, you're still probably going to pay over MSRP for them. I don't know about how many people work in a factory and all that, however I do know that Opus/Anejo are more HTF than My Father cigars. Just my thoughts on it.

I tend to agree with Greg...when it comes to the My Family, I think it's more (marketing) perception over reality....regardless of how small the production numbers are. With the whole story behind the making of that cigar coupled with the current wave they are riding. they WANT to be on the same playing field as the Fuente higher end sticks.

But in the end, there is no way the two cigars way be compared. Once DPG makes this line for 10 or 15 years like the Fuentes have done with Opus and Anejo, maybe then they can be considered equals.

It's one thing to crunch numbers and quote statistics about "X" cigar vs. "Y" cigar in terms of production and total output. It's a whole other can of worms to look at how readily available a cigar is, and what that cigar sells for. For example, Gurkha claims "Z" cigar will be harder to find than the Opus X and "only 100,000 of this cigar will ever be rolled - EVER! NO REALLY - EVER!!!" Yet, you can get them for literally a fraction of "Gurkha MSRP".

It's not so much that I believe that Opus or Anejo is _incredibly_ hard to find. However, there is an undeniable intrinsic value to the Opus/Anejo line simply because they are released in pitifully small amounts to almost all sources, they're almost universally in demand/enjoyed (enjoyment part is admittedly subjective), and there is never a reliable 24/7 source where you can buy them. You simply can't say, "Well, gee, I better grab a box of Opus Perfecxion X... man... and some RdC's - my boxes are getting low," and expect to find it in any reasonable timeframe at a non-ridiculous price. If you have the ability to do this, please PM me ASAP with your sources and I love you long time.

I determine "rarity" by how easy/difficult it is to acquire "X" cigar. For example sake, let's say a Diamond Crown Maximus. Many of the vitolas in the line share similar MSRP's with Opus vitolas. The DCM is is not a rare cigar. Why? Because I can get on a myriad of online vendors and grab as many as I want, whenever I want, and the time of year doesn't matter. Alternatively, I can walk into the B&M's around here and nab as many DCM as I want, whenever I want. The same simply isn't true for high end Fuentes - it never has been and, at least for the foreseeable future, never will be.

Edit: Typo and whatnot.

As someone on the outside watching the pass, I have a question.

Rarity is not defined as how many cigars there are, but if you know where to find them?

And one other thing:

But in the end, there is no way the two cigars way be compared. Once DPG makes this line for 10 or 15 years like the Fuentes have done with Opus and Anejo, maybe then they can be considered equals.

I don't think the object of passing is to compare how good a cigar is compared to others. Taste is subjective, as has been discussed countless times on the board. If you're going to re-define putting and taking by how good someone thinks a cigar is, well, that's going to open a whole new can of worms.

Well geez Robbie, that's like saying the DE Liga Privada No. 9 is more rare than an Opus Super Beli, based on the fact that Drew Estates released X amount of Liga Privada's this year vs. Fuente rolling X amount of Opus Super Beli's this year... It doesn't work, and that's a misinformed statement, in my opinion. As you know, Drew Estates released another batch of LP No. 9's a couple months later, which would negate a claim of LP No. 9's being on the same level of rarity/rarity as an Opus Super Beli based on numbers and production runs because you can find DE LP No. 9's all day long on the internets.

I'm sure Pepin will do the same with the My Father line, and your statement will be negated based on numbers in production. That, and the final word has already been spoken on the put/take, I just wanted to add my opinion on a statement of "fact."

Jon, your statement of fact is an assumption, I'm afraid. You are also making a false comparison:

desirability != rarity != availability

My point was, imo, that the MF for FF was acceptable, but I'm ok with it not being, since it was 11c in my favor. I'm not sure if people are now arguing that the MF for 50 is no good.

I think we should collectively start talking about attainability as a critical factor instead of simply using the word rarity.

H'ok. So Robbie has informed me that Kristin accidentally took the Anejo 77 instead of the Anejo 55 - which isn't a big of a deal because she generously put an Opus Double Corona. The only minor issue it causes is Robbie not being able to take the Shark for his Opus PL.

He also informed me that the PSD4 is very damaged. I told him to take it out of the pass.

Oops!! I thought I was careful in what I did. If you need me to ship it back I can do that. Damaged!! That is odd. I was very careful in everything that I did. I think Robbie is saying it is damaged because he wanted it.

Oh...my...Lord woman. You crack me up Kristin.  Stop hanging out near helium tanks, that stuff can leak!!

Also:

Steelers 23 > Cardinals 20

I double checked. O the pressure. BTW I am blonde..can I use that now??

So does anyone have an issue with Robbie's revised p/t or is this this ready to roll?

The collective definition of "rare" encompasses something being uncommon and not easily obtained. I think rarity is a pretty solid term to use.

Edit: $&@# didn't mean to double post.
