The flavors in a cigar? Maybe u can help

Smoke what you like and like what you smoke is the only law.

I'm in the "I like it" or "I don't like it" camp, for the most part. Most cigars taste like tobacco and smoke to me (imagine that), with some being much more pleasant than others. Every now and then I'll get a few distinct notes and flavors come through on a draw, but I've only ever had one cigar that blew me away and made me feel I was finally experiencing all these things you read about in the reviews.

I'm the same way. I read about guys who gush over whatever stick with super duper flavor notes, but when I try it I usually don't have the same experience. I'm not sure if I'm not getting it, not doing it right, or whatever. I have a friend who says, "I smoke two kinds of cigars, those that are tremendous and those that are not." As with food, I've recently started asking myself, What makes a thing taste good or bad? I can't always answer the question, but the search makes the experience more pleasurable most of the time.

However, sometimes I just want to eat a sandwich or smoke a cigar and not over analyze it.

Tobacco has all sorts of flavors, which different people can pick up on. When you burn tobacco in a cigarette, a lot of this is missed out. However, in a cigar. or in a non combustible situation like a vaporizer, you get more nuances. I've been on flavor panels for tasting tobacco flavors and the notes people describe are incredible: Pink hand soap, an herb scented candle, chocolate, creaminess, the list goes on. It must be one of the most diverse flavor profiles /variances for a product you taste. Just like with wine: the best thing you can do is just learning to listen to your senses (smell and taste). If you don't taste hay or shortbread, then you may not remember what hay/shortbread smell/taste like.

Most importantly, what I try to tell people who are new to tasting wine: be honest with yourself and be objective. If you taste sweet hay filled horse manure, then that is what you taste. And always, smoke what you like, like what you smoke.

I could not pick up flavors when I got back into cigars , then after bit I started picking them up again , try pairing with different drinks , hold the smoke a tad longer

I've gotten away from cigars for a month or two, several times in 40 years. Each time my palate had to acclimate back to a more discerning state.
