It's kind of rumor/speculation (he did die of liver failure), but from what I've read Steve never mentally recovered from losing his son many years ago and essentially drank himself to death. So sad all around.

"Six" is still my AOTY so far. I also love that they are one of the few bands making actual narrative music videos rather than just repetitive "stand in one spot and rearrange the lights and wardrobe for each different single" videos (looking at YOU, Metallica).
