The CP Make-a-Wish PIF Thread

Might I be so bold to point out something? Sometimes, not always, reson #3 might come into play wherein it is the weekend and there is less "traffic" than during the week. Perhaps some consideration and patience might be employed during this time when someone's wish is up? There is more likelihood a wish will be granted when more members are online to see the wish to begin with.

Thanks for listening............

Gentlemen,

If your wish is not granted in about a day and people are ready to play, then be gracious and make a new one preferably before you are prompted. You are the steward of your wish and it is your responsibility to manage it. For onlookers, if you have a point to make, then make it and leave it at that. If there's more that needs to be said, please take it to PMs.

Lack of action means that 1) no one is able or 2) no one is willing to fulfill the wish. That's all. In the first case, make a new wish. In the second case, consider what you ask for in light of your history here...then make a new wish.

It is not just the wish that is material and relevant, it is the person making the wish. Just as members don't fall over themselves to fulfill ISOs in the Buy/Sell/Trade Forum from brand new guys for HTF sticks, the same holds true here in this thread with respect to wishes.

Be civil, be gracious, be the better man and this thread will continue to flourish for all. This thread and the players have been wonderful thus far. Let's keep the good vibes going!

Best,
Wilkey

Absolutely. This makes sense.

I think that members exercising their good judgment and taking into consideration the relevant circumstances is a better solution than blind adherence to the "letter of the law."

New members, though, like myself, cannot exactly reliant upon our own judgment entirely in a forum like this where the long-standing members carry a great deal of weight.

The community here is centered around how long you've been a member and/or how many posts you've made, to some extent. That is what builds the social hierarchy. Nothing necessarily WRONG with that, it works, but there is an inherent bias.

If Carlito Fuente joined anonymously, he'd be given difficulty when he messed up/made a gaffe in the eyes of even one older member. Perhaps not if you knew who he was, but I'm saying just that - beyond gatherings in 'real life' there is no way to have a truly personal connection with others here. The "law of the land," therefore, is not always evenly applied, just based on seniority of membership.

Again, nothing wrong with that. I've been active in forums before, and seniority is a rule of thumb. I would suggest, though, that a self-denying ordinance, of the sort such that FOGs here would be mindful of newbies' only known shortcoming being that they haven't been on the board too long, ought to be in order at times. At one's own discretion, of course.

So although your conclusion is reasonable that individuals should be mindful of situations, a new member (not necessarily as new as me, either) might be hesitant to rely upon their own thoughts on a matter. Something to keep in mind. ;)

How long you have been around and how much do you contribute. Are your deals always slanted in your direction or are you generous to your Brother CP'ers. Do you always hop quickly on the freebies. Do you give as much or more than you receive ( Not asking for more than you have given is an implied rule on all of CP ). All of these things count toward how you are thought of here on Cigar Pass.

Jess this post is not to pick on you. It is something for all newer members to think about. I have been here just over a year and am still considered a newbie by most of the older members. Fine by me. This did not get to be the finest forum of any type I have ever belonged to by letting newer people run around with no guidance.

It is an oldie but true, CP is not a sprint it is a marathon. If you want to be an accepted member here slow down, take a breath and soak in the great things that are here to be learned about cigars and life.

... and sorry Wilkey for yet again taking this thread off topic. I will not go look for some Nat Sherman 489 tubos.

Jess,

I think the point that we've tried to impress upon newcomers is that this forum is more of a meritocracy than a social space where reputation is based solely on longevity. On this fundamental point, you haven't quite got it right. Think about it. If tenure were the sole or even primary factor, then a lower member number would always trump a higher number no matter that newer member's contributions.

Should Carlito Fuente come here under an unknown screen name and flub up a trade, then of course he would get called for it. And if his true identity were then to be revealed, then I suspect that he'd be given instant credibility because of his unique position in the industry that serves us. However, I doubt anyone would say that he could do as he wishes simply because of who he is. There are few Carlitos here. Most folks are regular joes like you and me.

Of course no one expects newcomers to instantly appreciate and understand the social milieu and mores here at CigarPass. That would be unreasonable. What IS appreciated, though, is that newcomers approach the learning and socialization process with a constructive and humble attitude. That alone can sometimes make or break the experience and result in one becoming integrated or further and further alienated from the community. You are free to exercise your judgment but understand that we are all here to provide feedback on that exercise.

The experience is self-reinforcing and self-correcting. If a newcomer is mindful of the feedback he is receiving, all the necessary information is there to gauge the appropriateness of his judgment. The coin of this realm is credibility and for all of us regular members, that is cultivated through actions, decision making, and attitude, and yes, time put in.

Just goes to show, no man's a saint and anyone could someday show their ass. :)

Actually, anyone who's spent any time here has shown their ass at some point but that's all part of getting to know each other, yes?

Wilkey

Tell you what, if Wilkey will let me by on a promise that in the next two days I will find some Nat Sherman 489 turbos, we can call his filled.

My wish I give to Mercado Libre ( as long as Wilkey OKs the pleadged sticks )

Seth

Seth,

Thank you for the offer but HandymanDave PM'd me to say that he has some coming in and that he could take care of the wish. I acknowledged this but he hasn't confirmed yet so let's give him some time to come and close the loop. Sound good?

Wilkey

I have Ginsing on the tubos! There might be some hitchhikers as well.

I wish for any Montecristo other than #4 or Petit Edmundo.
