The Blind Shall Lead the Blind Pass

Thanks for straightening out my mess, Steve...

Thanks Monkey for letting me make a mess of your pass!!!

It was a great, pass - and a great concept - (and of course, topped off with a great herf!!!) thanks for having me!!!

I picked up a sampler of the Gran Habano #5 over the holidays and liked them enough to pick up a box when they were on sale at Cigar King. Good solid smoke for the ride to and from work.

Received the package yesterday - helluva assortment of sticks.

Takes:
45 - CAO Brazilia Samba - looks like this is gonna be fantastic
53 Gran Habano #3 Torp
55 Torano Signature Robusto - have always liked the Torano products

Puts:
#56 - 4 Havana Reserves by Don Lino Lonsdale Maduro's - this reminded me of my old rule: Never buy a cigar with the word "Don" in the name - nice stick, but way too mellow and mild for me

#57 1 Indian Tabac Maduro Tomahawk - nice smoke, but not to my tastes - I can't really pinpoint what I didn't like

#58 1 Perdomo 2 Exponente Maduro - I grab anything from Perdomo, but this box pressed 'gar is just boring IMHO - I would expect more from a Perdomo maddie.

I took the liberty of putting some bubble-wrap in the bottom of the box for extra cushioning.

If there are no disagreements with the above, I'm ready to shoot the package to Chris.

Looks good. However when you say "#56 - 4 Havana Reserves by Don Lino Lonsdale Maduro's" are you indicating that you put 4 of these in and labeled them all #56? (no particular problem with this, just want to make sure I understand).

I used to love the Perdomo 2, but haven't heard of the other two. Anyone else have any experience with these?

There is no record of that item. If it was mailed recently, information may not yet be available. Please try again later.
???

Not sure why the above was posted - if there is any concern as to whether on not the package was sent, I assure you it was. The gentleman at the post office told me that the number on the pre-printed label sent with the box was the tracking number - if this is incorrect, I apologize.

I don't trust that USPS.com tracking BS - I've had boxes that landed that still said they had not been shipped... The people at the Post Office said it sometimes takes a day or two to catch up...

Now if a day or two goes by and it still says the same thing.... Uh, oh..... ???

Let's see ifn' an old mailman can help here. Technically, you are paying for delivery confirmation, not package tracking. Ifn' the clerk is following the rules, they are not supposed to scan the package when mailed. So when you enter the number you get either the message you got or, if the label is preprinted off the USPS website, it will say "notice was given by the shippper electronically blah, blah, blah." (BTW - did you know that preprinting the label from this site gives you FREE delivery confirmation?)

Thing is, most clerks do scan the package so we have come to expect that as the norm. Scanner may also not have been downloaded yet. Keep the paranoia in check for now, boys.

Oh, and all my preprinted labels have a 20 digit DC number, not 28. Maybe you're using the wrong number.

Thats what I was thinking. guinnessguy, I don't doubt that you sent the package, sorry if I made that impression.

As melski pointed out, I usually see this for a preprinted label (usually until it has been delivered):

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on February 07, 2005 to expect your package for mailing. No further information is available for this item.

Not a problem - I actually thought there was going to be a problem - the 'gentleman' I dealt with at the post office insisted that the number on the pre-printed label (the one directly above the bar-code) was the tracking number - I thought this odd, but did not any way to prove otherwise.

Thanks again,
Mike

Well, I got it in today. I have today off, so I went ahead and did my part.

Takes:
#1 Onyx Reserve Mini Belicoso (Never had any Onyx Product...)
#24 El Rey Del Mundo Robusto Larga (Heard only good things!)
#28 CAO Black Robusto (Never had a CAO stick, although this adds another to my humi collection I have resting.)

Puts:
#59 Victor Sinclair Bohemian Bamboo North Beach - I've had three or four of these in the past, they start very well. Then they just seem to fall apart (plugs, canoeing, lack of flavor). I love almost everything else of Sinclair's but I can't seem to get hooked on his Bohemians. Reviews for this are good too.

#60 Puros Indos Special-Aged Piramides Maduro - Another smoke with brilliant reviews, nearly 10 years old before I bought it (that's what I read). Taste seemed too woody for me, could not get anything special from it.

#61 La Vieja Habana Early Years Festibal De Moroc - Upper end of La Vieja's line, they just started making these again IIRC...bought a sampler because I liked their regular stuff for my yardgars. This just didn't seem to do it for me. Burned cool and was smooth, but offered no taste for me..hopefully it just needs more time in the humi.

If all of these are okay, I'll send it on to knifeman. (maybe even today.)

Edit: Newb Mistake :)

Also, it seems #52 Gurhka pre-embargo cuban is damaged at the foot, about 1/2 inch of the wrapper is gone.

LOL!!! :D
almost got me on that one!!
I had to read that twice..~~

Looks good Christopher  . Sorry I couldn't respond earlier, my work blocks this site (and they recently caught on to the proxy server I was using :whistling: ).

I'll post the new inventory a little later tonight, after Maggie (my little girl) goes to bed.

BTW, where did you see a review on the Bohemian Bamboo? I haven't heard of this one yet.

I remember sitting at a table in Whippany,I believe it was during the great snowstorm of '03, for HH3. This scruffy looking guy comes over to the table and says, "You look like a tough guy to please, so try this." and hands me a La Vieja Habana Torp in maduro. Turns out the guy was the Drew of Drew Estates. Beautiful stick that I wanted to like; had just the right heft and mouth feel, burned sharp as a tack. Alas, the flavor didn't do it for me. Surprisingly, since I'm not a small cigar fan, I found the smaller size Silencios to be quite good.

Proof yet again that a 5er of one size is not a true sample. I always try to get 2 of each size for a sampler.
