Thank you MilesMingusMonk

My jazz experiences are quite limited, but have always enjoyed listening to Monk and Coltrane. Love the bass playing of Stanley Jordan and like to listen to the classic sounds of Billie Holiday frequently.

MMM--those 7 selections might be the very cornerstones of my love of jazz, and my collection.

SHawk--welocme to Jazz.
Turn on "A Love Supreme" by Coltrane, light a nice cigar, close your eyes, and listen to the world get better.

There's been a lot of good music recomended. But to understand Jazz one must study it's history. I would like to recomend the Ken Burns documentry that was shown on PBS. Simply called JAZZ. The companion book is also quite good as are the CD's

Doc.

Thanks MMM and everyone else for the recommendations  Just purchased 10(buy 1 get 4 Free) CD's from BMG and got all of your recommendations. I love listening to Jazz, smokin' a stogie, and drinking (whatever). Especially down at the lake, sitting on the deck taking in the view.....to die for!

I've wanted to get some CD's but didn't know where to start!

Thanks Again! :D
