Growing too fast.
It’s beautiful this time of year with the leaves beginning to turn their amber and gold colors. The weather is perfect with temps getting up in the mid 70’s, still a good time to put fire to a nice size smoke, which is why I picked out a Tat RC33. The wrapper is a medium to light brown in color and somewhat oily with multiple prominent veins. It has a slight give when squeezed with a bit of crunchiness, which is good as the cigar was extremely damp when received, the dampest cigar I’d ever come across. After clipping a bit off the head, I found the draw with a slight resistance that I attributed to the small tapered foot.
With the foot lit, I take several good puffs and let the cigar rest for a bit. I did this several times until the fire had burned to about a half-inch in, then took a long draw. There was mild spice on the back of the tongue and throat, the strength somewhat on the mild side as well; however the body seemed full over the palate. Flavors were really rich and delicious with the finish lasting on the palate.
A quarter in and the burn is sharp with a medium gray ash forming that I though was holding strong, but fell off as I got up to take my first pic. The smoke was really flowing well through the absolute perfect draw, spice picking up slightly as well as the strength. Flavors were incredibly rich and very much a Tatuaje profile of toasted nuts and vanilla with a wonderful twang as I exhale slowly through the mouth and nose.
I decided to pop the cap on a bottle of Founders Backwood Bastard around the halfway mark and HOLY SHIT! What a freakin’ fantastic beer! Smooth and creamy with a strong taste of…bourbon! I’ve had beer aged in bourbon barrel’s before, but none compares to this! Wow. But, back to the Tat, it was burning perfectly with the spice and strength both building the further in I got. Flavors were just fantastic, rich and delicious with the finish long on the palate.
I’ve got to say that I absolutely enjoyed this cigar that was close to two hours smoking time. Towards the end the spice and strength really picked up to a good medium and the flavors continued to be rich with the finish lasting on the palate. What a thoroughly wonderful Saturday afternoon with excellent smoke and fantastic beer! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
