I was in DC last week, and stopped in a shop for a smoke while I was waiting for my bus back. I noticed a jar in the cabinet behind the counter, and asked if they had any in stock. The gentleman grabbed the jar and opened it up, taking one out.

He explained to me that they were "not the jar release" of the cigar. He said that Pete went down to Nicaragua to check on production, and did not like the color of the wrappers, thinking it was too light. Same blend, same binder, same wrapper, just that Pete thought they were too light. So, the cigars were wrapped in cello, packaged in bundles, and sent out to retailers.

I searched a few different key words, from both searches on the site, and didn't find anything about this. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Never heard of these in cello, but I do know that the delay and stratified release of the jars were wholly, or at least in part, attributable to Pete not being pleased with the color on the wrappers. So uhhh, which shop was it again where you saw these? :whistling:

Yes.

Hey Guys,

I am down in Nicaragua and wanted to give you some production updates.

Tatuaje Blacks - We have only been able to ship around 440 jars so far. We are waiting for more bundles from the factory to fill the jars. We had a slow down due to cover leaf color. Jaime is grading the darker color cigars for the consumer and I get the lighter ones to smoke. Let's just say I have many light ones in cello bundles that I will be carrying with me everywhere I go.
We hope to have all the jars shipped by late June.

La Riqueza and Cabaiguan Maduro will start shipping in 3 to 4 weeks in small quantities. La Riqueza will be going to only full line Tatuaje dealers and Cabaiguan Maduro for now will be going only to the top Cabaiguan dealers. I am loving them both and I hope you will like them also.

The Tatuaje Monster/Horror Series is coming along great. The boxes are going to freak people out. Pepin and Jaime think I am crazy.

Jaime told me that no one should worry about production in the future. 80% of the tobacco that they will be using next year will be tobacco from their own farms and the quality is beautiful. This percentage will only grow in years to come. Pepin, Jaime, Amilcar and the whole Garcia family are very excited and proud of the new tobacco and are convinced that the tobacco is some of the best in the world.
There is a bright future for anyone working with Pepin and his family.

I will have a small release of something else in about 3 months that you will find at only a couple of retailers. I have a new name and I am releasing only one size for now, truthfully to protect the trademark. Can't go into details yet but I will update. BTW, the cigar is great.

Out for now,
Pete

"Same as the Jar cigars but the wrapper shade is a bit lighter. These came out during color selection..... The cigars were put in cello that were not designated for the jars."

You were correct in that the blacks in the cello were of lighter color and Pete didn't want them for the jars so he bundled them in cello. If you look at the ones in cello as opposed to the ones from the jar or the OR 25ct bundles, they are noticibly lighter. I smoked one and it was pretty similar to the darker wrapper, maybe a little less spice but for the most part, close.

Oh and the shop you stopped in was THE shop for DC, Drapers on 14th. When were you in? I'm sure you saw all the Cabaiguan Maddys, La Aurora cien anos preferidos and so on and so on. G1

Thanks Gary. I'm pretty sure I had read that somewhere before, maybe even here, but couldn't find it.

G1 - I was there Friday afternoon. I stopped in before heading over to Cap City for happy hour lunch before getting on the bus. A lot of nice stuff in there. Had I gone in when I first got to DC, it would have meant a lot less food and drink the rest of the trip.

Real nice shop, good guys working in there, and got to relax with a smoke and take in the Brazil vs Germany women's volleyball match. :D

I just smoked one of these in the cello... I didn't realize they weren't the jar release when I bought them. I don't have a jar release to compare it to but good god was this a tasty smoke. Actually it started off with a whimper... and I was beginning to think these aren't for me but about the halfway point HELLO... full flavor and I nubbed it! I heard of flaky ash and what not with these tat blacks but this one had a nice strong ash, excellent construction and lots and lots of good flavor. Time can only do great things for the 4 I have left!
