Tatajue and DPG

Fair enough, we do disagree. The Tat article looks to be a living reference. Do you personally maintain it?

I never took a side in that thread and stayed out of it. I think most would agree the subject needs to remain closed.
I disagree. They are both members of this community, vendors or no. They are not off limits for criticism or praise. They are not to be afforded some kind of secrecy or some special treatment. They both chose to put their sides out. As a members we have a right, and even something of a responsibility, to form some sort of opinion. That doesn't mean that someone gets flamed always but character follows you from the forum to your office or b&m.

True enough, they are both not off limits for criticism or praise. The point I tried to make was that Rod said that thread ran its course. Also that like Moki said, they had a buisness falling out. We should not be grouping around one or the other like some school yard fight, presuming we absolutely have all the facts about the one we think is in the right.
I've had more contact with one than the other, but I know it's not fair to presume that from one story, and a few emails and postings from another that I have it all figured out.
I too choose to respect both of them, and hope that they some day work it out..............That's all I was trying to say.

Edit for grammar

Rod has asked us to not dwell on this subject any further. So lets not stir the pot any further and at least try to keep THIS thread on topic and prevent it from veering (any further) into murky waters.

The OP asked about the connection between DPG and Pete Johnson and how this led to the Tatuaje brand.
And Tatuaje is an interesting example in the industry as it has clearly hit a nerve with smokers and become incredibly popular in just a few years, and yet it was a wholly new company that controlled everything about the product from the ground up unlike a lot of the 'boutique' labels of the boom-times that would just slap a fancy band on someones else's production. I know at one point Pete had a moratorium on new Brown-Label accounts and this even led to the creation of the Hecho en Nicaragua 'Red Label' line to help meet demand.

It is frustrating at times, but it is so hard to find reliable info on the industry. I've been researching Tatuaje since I discovered their product a couple years ago and so much info out there is hearsay and regurgitated marketing copy (though there isn't even a lot of marketing copy coming out of Tatuaje. I think Pete is their whole marketing department...)

So hats-off to Moki for running one of the best sources of no-bullshit info about cigars on the web. Any chance you could set up an interview w/ Pete? I have a laundry-list of questions I would like to ask him...
