I had the chance to smoke one of these yesterday courtesy of JFields. I normally prefer something with a larger ring guage due to horrible luck with plugged skinnies. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how well this one drew. I carefully shaved the cap off to start so as not to cut it too wide. I wanted to get the closed foot burnt off before I settled on the cut/draw ratio. In the end I only trimmed of a bit more. For the most part this smoke burned evenly the entire time. Only once, after I set it down and stepped away for a few minutes, did I take the torch to it to even it up a bit. For the first 2-5 minutes I thought this cigar was going to be something spicy. This was not the case. While it started out strong, perhaps from the extra wrapper leaf on the closed foot, it quickly mellowed into something similar to my experiences with the Guapo. I imagine the tobacco is very different, but the Guapo tasted similar to me in terms of overall strength. I usually take 3 puffs when I draw a cigar, the third being the stongest. While this cigar didn't provide as much smoke as any of the 1926s, it was rather voluminous in terms of thickness. The ash remained a light gray throughout the smoke and was not very flaky. I was able to smoke it down to the nub without regret. Overall I really enjoyed this smoke. However, I think I would enjoy it much more in a larger vitola such as a torpedo or double robusto. In some ways it reminds me of the Opus #5. I love the Opus, but sometimes the #5 just doesn't really bring anything to the table. I don't ever regret the smoke, it just sometimes doesn't do anything for me. I feel the same about this smoke. I'll enjoy smoking it, but it may not do anything for me sometimes.
