Taking poker offline

For what it's worth, Casinos make a very large percentage of their profits (upwards of 80%) off of slot machines, including video poker and all those variations. Coupled with decreased business in general I would imagine they just need to boost their profits by adding more of what gives them the most money.

Living in such close proximity to AC and having quite a few Friends as Executives down there, they always preached to the profitability of the slots since the day they opened. Also in New Jersey, we have a TON of Senior Citizen developments that run junkets down there. They pay $20 for the bus ride down and get $20 in slot tokens when you arrive (and a buffet lunch too)...and the senior ladies live on the slot machines as a 'day out' activity.

For the longest time, card playing was not allowed in AC...all my card playing friends would head out to Vegas to get their fix...(and I'd sit at the sportbook in the Hilton) Then, the NJ Lawmakers finally lifted the card playing ban due to all the money they were loosing out on.

Whatever the new fad was at the time, they'd clear out a few slots to run with it for a while...when it died off, back came the slot machines. They are always in a constant flux trying to capitalize on the newest money grabbing fad!

The truth of it is, every game makes money for the casinos. But everything else comes a distant second to slots. Machines don't call in sick or try to sue for workers' comp. Slots allow for many "pulls" per minute in comparison to most other games which are much slower and don't provide as much profit in anywhere near as quick a fashion as the slot machines do. Thus, everything else is pretty much a "loss leader" to slots. Other games are there just to get you into the casino and then the slots attempt to dazzle you with their lights and sounds until you plunk your cash down with them.

It also takes no skill, what-so-ever, to pull a lever.

Doc.
