Sweet new product: Xikar wireless hygrometer system

The only thing that bothers me about these wireless remote systems is the inability to re-calibrate the sensors. We strive to purchase the adjustable digital hygrometers versus the units without that feature for our humidors and coolerdors because we know they're finicky and need periodic re-calibration. Yet we treat these wireless setups as bulletproof...or as Xikar put it, "No calibration needed, guaranteed accuracy of +/- 2% RH right out of the box". Is it me, or did they gloss over the most important aspect of what a hygrometer does? Won't theirs need to be readjusted like all the rest of the hygrometers as they get older?

Even our trusty 'Set it & forget it' units in our larger cabinets need a periodic re-calibration...but not these? What happens when you salt test them and each of the sensors is off by a few percent?...do you start with the piece of tape on the receiver that says 'Sensor #1 +4%...Sensor #2 -3%...Sensor #3 +5%'.... ???

I have something similar. A remote weather station from Oregon Scientific sans the webcam.

I have remotes in my cabinet and two coolidors. I keep the monitor on my nightstand which reminds me to check daily.

John, have you ever salt tested or Boveda'd any of your remote sensors to check them for accuracy since you bought it?
I have the same issue as you do Gary.  It would be better if there was a feature that allowed you to recalibrate the sensors them so that you would be able to fully rely on them.

I have salt slush tested them all twice at some point Gary. They all are within 1 - 2% in range. I even have regular digital hygrometers in there just in case that I probably don't need. These are not cheapie hygrometers, and they probably felt there would be no need to calibrate. There is a reset button inside of each remote, but not too sure what the need or purpose if it is.

The set up has been going rock solid for four or five years now.

That's very impressive John...thanks for the info.

I never would have thought they would be that accurate after 5 years. I had to replace the control unit in my Aristocrat after 7-8 years to Bob's new unit because of it losing its accuracy....and that little box cost much more.

Props to Oregon Scientific for that unit...and so affordable too!

Gary, I agree with your assessment, that is very rare after 5 years...

I use one of these with 3 remotes for my cabinets, they are adjustable for humidity and temp. I have had to adjust them several times in the past few years... What I like as well is the monitor only has temp and humidity...

I wouldn't be surprised if the newer models have an app that allows you to monitor from anywhere.

Four or five years and I still have yet to set the outside wind speed/direction, and rain equipment up.

Irregardless...... I would buy anything Xikar if I didn't already have something in place. Their customer service is second to none.
Gotta agree here. I sent my cutter in to sharpen and they sent me a new nicer one and I sent a lighter in and got a new one back that's lasted me going on 6 or 7 years

Since Xikar gives a lifetime warranty, I suspect, and hope, that they used some decent components. Who the hell wants to go broke honoring warranties?
I'll probably buy one if the price is fair. I suspect they'll build some of the warranty coverage into the price, but probably still worth a shot.
