Hi all,

I've recently rediscovered this forum and had an interesting question.

I visited this website http://www.metrocigar.com/

Bassically it is a private cigar club with 4,000sq/ft of lounge area, pool table, TV's, private cigar lockers, and a kitchen/dining area. They call themselves the Metropolitan Society. They are structured as a not-for-profit LLC and the membership fees cover the cost of the bills.

I like this concpet of a private cigar club. I live in California and the laws regarding smoking indoors at retail establishments are fairly strict. I love the concept of a small private club paid for by membership fees. Since it is not a retail establishment then smoking indoors and serving drinks or coffee would be ok (members serve themselves, no employees). I have emailed the Metropolitan Society asking some questions regarding their by-laws and legal structure.

Any suggestions ideas for starting a similar club in the Republik of Kalifornia?

or am I just nuts?

Contact my good friend StinkiMonki, he is a wealth of info on this matter, good luck.

That's an awesome idea! I wish the town I live in was big enough for such a thing. . . I work with a guy who owns two resturants and is getting ready to open a piano bar style club. His son also works with me and I got him into cigars, now we are both trying to convince him to open a cigar shop/lounge/club!

Good luck and have fun!

Money well spent. I am at the club 3-4 nights a week, playing cards or bullshittin', best money spent all year. Best thing the wife has no problems with me goin. All I can say is do it.

Sounds excellent... I've been thinking of opening a business like this when I retire from the military. Let me know how it goes for you, I still have quite a few years to consider venue, location and particulars, as well as to save starting capital and such.

I love my local B&M but am seriously tempted to start a tax deductible cultural enhancement society. We are a vanishing breed. Mostly because you guys don't really breed, you just send it down the shower.

Look me up Raden. I have one down here with a couple of buddies. We have a retail store and a private members only lounge. There is an exception to the Labor Code which allows smoking inside a retail tobacco shop and also a private lounge. With the private lounge you can obtain a Type 57 liquor license with allows you to serve spirits. Thus you can smoke and drink inside a commercial establishment. FYI, the 57 license is expensive.

PM me if you want some more details.
