The local folks complaining wouldn't be if they were stockholders. :)

Sooo, it only goes to reason that those who are claiming it's such an iconic figure (the company) are a bit hypocritical since it wasn't important enough to them to invest in.

I will say that I think this is a bad idea, and I agree with the reasoning that AB is an iconic figure not just for St. Louis but for the country. Also, I hold a very large number of shares of AB and although this has done wonders for the stock price over the past few weeks I don't think it's better than the gain (and dividends paid) this stock has seen since I have held it. I hope this sale doesn't go through. And folks need to keep in mind that AB is alot more than Budweiser. I'd need to review the specifics again, but AB includes over 100 beers in 12 breweries (including Bacardi), but also a dozen smaller companies such as the Busch Gardens Theme Parks.

Aren't Sea World and Eagle brand Snacks (not sure they are around) also part of their enterprise? We did a report on them in high school over 10 years ago. We loop-holed the rule of no alcohol discussion in school because of their multitude of companies.

Gotcha, I love Duvel!

Becks and Stella are a far cry from Duvel though Anthony.

So true, but it still is an European company. I can tolerate a Becks or Stella, but can only drink a Bud as a last resort.

So the Bud you drank with BBQ last year was a last resort? :D

While I live in St. Louis, I really don't drink Bud and I really don't like Bud Light (always has been nasty), but some of the other beers they sell are good. I was on a Stella kick for a while but now that's over. As a pure business deal it is a good deal for the stockholders. There will be a lot of wailing and nashing of teeth here in St. Louis as a lot of people make a really good living from the brewery. The new owners would have to slash costs in order to make the deal make sense, but that is normal in any business purchase. The brewing of Bud would probably not change at all since that is part of what they are buying.

It is the purchase of American comapnies by foreign entities that bothers me more than anything, another symptom of the weak $. It would be my preference to keep profits here rather than ship them overseas like we do with a lot of profit in the auto industry. Then they can afford the engineering and research to take things to the next level. I think sales of AB products would tank (especially here) if it were owned by a corporation in another country. There are other local options that would be better in a product like beer. It's all business and our laws here are wide open when compared with other countries and if the buyout is killed then the board better have some good reasons and some enhancement of shareholder value or they will be subject to legal scrutiny.
