I think the worm is digging himself a pretty deep hole. but I remember how I would catch nightcrawlers when I was a kid. I would run each side of the wires from a electric cord to long steel rods' then i would soak the ground with a hose for a while, I then take each steel rod and plunge it into the ground about two or three foot apart and plug in the cord to the juice..Ohhhh Yaaaa , in about 30 seconds them buggers would come a squirming to the surface all quivering and a shaking to the 120 volt music I was playing for them..Bohaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Yet then ya could unplug the cord and just walk over and pick up their quivering bodys.
