Drinkin' the koolaid
So I got into Melbourne pretty late and even though I brought a couple cigars with me, I didn't think I'd have time to smoke. However, right across from the Thrifty car rental place was a cigar bar, Cigar Bobs. Pretty good sign if you ask me.
So, after grabbing a bite to eat at Hooters, I went down to this bar. Apparently I had just missed a Texas Hold'em game but at least I had about an hour and a half before closed to enjoy a cigar and some Guinness. I had brought a Tatuaje Havana VI Nobles and a Rocky Patel Sun Grown with me and a quick look through the Humidor didn't show anything interesting enough to try over those two.
Unfortunately, since I had just eaten some spicy wings and was drinking a bitter Guinness, I don't have much to report on the flavor of the Tatauje. It was certainly good and a unique flavor, though, so I'll be trying many more kinds again, hopefully.
As I was there smoking, I started up a conversation with a guy next to me. Seems he was ex-military, served in the Old Guard, so we had a bit to talk about. He said the owner rolled his own cigars that were available out of another humidor I hadn't noticed. I was hoping to chat up the owner and see what he recommended, but he left the place before I had a chance. I went ahead and grabbed four of the torpedos in the humidor anyhow. What the hell, right?
After smoking the Tat, my new buddy and I went down to another placed called The Mug, I think. Was a little loud, but I figured I'd try out one of these cigars while I had the chance. No one had an issue with me smoking there, either. The cigar wasn't much to write about, though. It had a very bad burn and would hardly stay lit. Might have been a little wet. I'll have to let the others sit in my humidor for quite a while and see if they get any better with age.
Being a little loud at this place and with the promise of karaoke, we then headed on down to a place called Lazy Dog, I think. No karaoke, but they did have Yuengling on tap (most placed did, actually), so I decided to partake of some of that and light up the RP Sungrown while I was at it. I hadn't had one of these in a while. I remembered it being stronger the last time, but I was probably plenty hydrated with beer to notice this time.
While there, some loud-mouthed guy was bragging about the money he won, so he bought us a round of Jagermeister bombs... I'm not a big fan of shots, but those are easy to drink. We ran into some other guy my buddy used to serve at a bar up in Virginia and his wife was fresh out the Army, so we did a little more chatting and drinking.
Eventually this place closed at 2am and the only thing open was Last Call, a $3 cover BYOB place. Apparently the guy from the previous place was a regular there, so they let us buy some beer from behind the bar. Saw an old guy come in with a hot young chick and wondered how much she was charging...
I get back to the hotel at about 3:30am and have to be up at 6am to head down to a local company that's demoing some stuff for us. Somehow the alarm actually wakes me up and after a little water and coffee, I'm off for a day of presentations.
I wasn't expecting to find a place that allowed cigars in Florida, let alone four of 'em. All in all, a pretty fun night and some decent smokes.
Just thought I'd share.
