Just something to think about.

On March 29, 1973, the last United States troops left South Vietnam, ending America's direct military involvement in the Vietnam War.

Interesting timing on this post. I just finished watching:

The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle. It is your killer instinct which must be harnessed if you expect to survive in combat. Your rifle is only a tool. It is a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead Marines and then you will be in a world of shit because Marines are not allowed to die without permission. Do you maggots understand?

I still remember the people scampering to the last heliocopter to get to safety on the tv. I'll carry that memory to the end, to watch people trying to escape tyranny and knowing there was nothing you can do is unbelievable.

LOVE that movie...

Amazing how short and distorted the public's attention span is at times. Walking away was worse than going in. I met the Priest seen loading one of the last helicopter liftoffs from the embassy and he still found it difficult to talk about that moment, only saying he had to focus on saving just one human at a time and not the throngs at the gates. I think that day still haunts him.

Operation Frequent Wind, the evac of Saigon was about 2 years later in April of 1975. If you remember the Marines pushing the choppers into the sea, one of those guys was me. :0

+1!!!!!

I used to work with a guy who was a Drill Sargent for a while (Marines, Army, whatever, don't remember) and he said that is the most accurate portrayal of "Boot Camp" ever.
